Just picked up a DA40 ...

Picked it up through a classified ad (Kijiji) locally for $280 Cdn, still mint condition, even the box looks new. I think it is a good deal for me, yes ?
I have read so many threads on this lens, but I am still amazed at how flat is is when installed on my K-r. Can't wait to start shooting with it ... my favourite subjects being my kids, and would love to see how it turns out for candid shots.

Now I have the three limited (DA21/DA40/DA70) to go along with my 50/f1.7 ... which I love so much. Curious to know from any Pentaxians who have both the DA40 and a 50 ... which one do you use more ?

I haven't used my FA 50 F/1.7 since I got the DA40.

I just traded my DA40 for a FA50/1.4.... But then my FA31 has been hogging time on my camera lately and it was too close to 40mm.

I had almost all 50mm's from Pentax... The F 50/1.7 is the one I liked most. Still, the DA 40mm produces (much) nicer images. I sold my F 50/1.7.

FA50 vs. DA40 - or one could say - plastic junk vs. metal...

I sold the FA50 and kept the DA40. No regrets and never looked back.

I found the FA50 way too soft at f1.4 so I replaced it with the Sigma 30mm f1.4. In addition to being a more useful/wider focal length, the Sigma blew the FA50 out of the water.

Some input from just down the road in Cambridge, Ontario. I have three Limiteds (15,40, and 70) plus an F50 1.7. I use the 50 in extreme low light situations and it is great. But the 40 LTD lives on the camera far more because it is sharp and contrasty even wide open, It also is faster focusing as are all the Limiteds. Put the 40 on and you will not likely remove it for the 50 very often (portraits for instance, but even then the 70 is great). Try them out, you won't be disappointed.

For me, the FA50 f/1.4 stays on the camera more than my DA40 Limited. That's just because I do more low light photography, which is one area where the DA 40 does not shine.

I've have had three copies of the FA50 F/1.4. Every time I sell it I decide that I really need it and re-purchase it.

When I look at my gallery of keepers, photographs taken with the FA50 stand out! And this is next to my other lenses which include, the FA trio (31, 43 & 77) and the much praised DA 15.

I've just traded the FA50 for a DA40 (with twitch) but I'm sure I'll feel the need for speed again one day. 2.8 vs 1.4?! There is an incredible difference there in terms of DOF control and the light getting through to the sensor.

I sold my FA50 because I the focal length is not what i want.
I tried a sigma30 f1.4 on a apsc Canon, but the MFD is way too long for a 30mm.

so my FA35 blew the water of both FA50 and sigma30.

I had both DA40 and FA501.4
I use FA501.4 a lot more than I did DA40.
Now that I have Sigma 30mm1.4, I don't ever use DA40 anymore.

Four times more light, four times faster shutter speed. If you don't need that, then the DA40 is all you need.

I bought DA40 and sold it after a week or so. It was great lens, produced sharp images, but 40mm FOV did not suit my shooting style. Neither for portraits, nor for landscapes. It's okay for street photography, but i prefer classic 50mm.
