Tamron lenses - Service in Canada?

Hi everyone,

I am looking for a reputable place in Canada where I can send a Tamron lens for service.

Since nobody replied to this old thread:
https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-slr-lens-discussion/36743-your-exp...ce-canada.html

I figured I would ask around.

Note that this query is in anticipation of a "sold item" being returned to me for an apparent weird behavior during AF.

Should anyone have names, address, telephone numbers ... it would be very appreciated.

Cheers.

JP

Thanks!

I will contact them once the lens in question has been returned to me.

BTW I noticed after looking it up that Amplis (the Canadian distributor) has an online store. Prices looked pretty good actually on all their product (aside from Tamron they do Metz, Quantum Ilford etc (the film prices are lower than most of the local stores so are the lenses)

I have had to have my 28-75 F2.8 serviced by Amplis Foto (they administer the warranty in ontario for tamron), and they took quite a long time with it, owing to the fact they had to send it ultimately to Japan to get fixed. It took several months.

If the service does not involve tricky issues I suspect they are OK, but I almost missed a vacation with this lens due to the length of time they had it.

They require you pay inbound postage, they pay outbound, att least for warranty, which I found OK

i guess if you live locally you could drop it in as well they are just in Markham.
that's a ridiculous long wait for a resolution though
you need a 6 year warranty just so it's back before the warranty expires

Thanks guys ! ... problem is that lens is no longer under any sort of warranty.

I suppose I could check with one repair shop or another before I send it in.

using the warranty repair shop will still probably result in the best overall service

I am going to contact Amplis Photo then and hopefully they will not charge an arm and a leg if the repair is actually necessary.

I am expecting delivery of this "return" (lens) this week and I have a rather strong feeling that there might be no problem with the lens itself, perhaps only user's high expectations.

Thanks for the tips on where to send it out if need be.

I recently sent my Tamron 17-50mm f2.8 to Amplis for warranty work,
the outer zoom ring had 'disconnected' from the internal zoom mechanism.

Lens is only 5 months old, I had lost the required bill/proof of purchase so they could
of denied my warranty but they contacted the store where I bought it and confirmed
the date of purchase with them thru their records.

Maybe it's a quiet time of the year for the service center but wow that was a quick turnaround time.
Very fast service, the lens was processed the same day it arrived there and
repaired, cleaned and focus adjusted under warranty soon after.

Glad that my most used lens was only gone for two weeks, including shipping time there and back + repair,
was just hoping it wasn't going to be like when I sent a Sigma to Vistek, that took forever!

+1 for Amplis!

i would never send a lens to Vistek (or henrys) they just send it out to the MFg service depot anyway. Glad to hear Amplis is so fast

Henry's had a nasty habit of selling you (or trying to sell you) an "in house" warranty type-of-thing and I wonder if they still do but this is definitely not a place to send gear for repair especially if the gear in question is out of warranty.

Amplis seems the definite choice.
