Help with Rationalization

I continue to want an FA 43/1.9 despite the fact that I own a DA 40 and DA 35/2.8 and can think of no solid reason to add yet another lens in the same range. Every holiday season, when my wife asks what I want for Christmas, I fleetingly think of the 43 before coming up with something else. This year, I can't think of anything else, so - please - do my wife a favor and help me think of a good reason to add an unneeded 43 to my kit. Thanks

Jer

There might be no rational. I see the lenses in your profile.
What about flashes, light modifiers, and commit to a new track of photography?

Sell the DA 40 and 35, the FA 43 is faster than either of those lenses, that will give you the motivation and the means to buy it. If you need more justification than that, you can use the 43 on a film body, or a new FF digital if Pentax ever decide to release one.

Want = need. You want it, so you need it. Life is short, go for the gusto. Not every decision in life has to make sense. And finally… because it's there.

Do you have any strobes? Maybe this could be the year to put together a home studio and become the official portrait photographer for your family.

The voices in your head instructed you to buy the lens. You always listen to your voices.

Just tell your self that you are getting the 43 to test out vs DA40, and you'll end up selling the one you don't like. I've only been shooting Pentax for under a year, but if LBA has thought me anything it's to rationalize(lie to myself).

LBA does not require rationalization.

This is really the answer. You are getting the 43 to test out against the 40! I did the exact same thing 2 years ago, with no regrets. Of course, I still have all three lenses... :-)

Because if Pentax ever comes out with a FF body, that 43ltd will be the greatest lens ever produced, in terms of speed, DOF for FOV, sharpness, size, build. It will, in combination with the FF K-1, be a shooter's nirvana.

It's a bet on the future.

I bought the 43 a while back, and now my 40 and 35 macro sit in a bag. I really like the FOV of the 43, and I like the lens a lot more than the 40, which to me is really fiddly.
