DA 35 Macro's optical clone reviewed on Photozone

Photozone now has an October 2011 review of the Tokina AF 35 f/2.8,
which is built to the same optical formula as the DA 35/2.8 Macro.

Here's the link:
Tokina AF 35mm f/2.8 AT-X Pro DX (Nikon) - Review / Test Report

They tested it on the 16MP Nikon D7000,
which has the same sensor as the K-5.

The results may not be transferable,
as the AA filters and processing differ,
but interesting nevertheless.

Interesting indeed.
I bet if they tested the Pentax version, it would have been rated worse. Imho, Photozone is a great resource, but like everyone, they knock Pentax hard.

And what evidence do you have of photozone doing that?

I use photozone.de extensively and I haven't detected any bias against Pentax. They love some lenses (FA 31, DA 70 etc.) and don't think others are up to snuff (DA 18-135). As fair as one gets.

Photozone already DID test the DA35mm Ltd, it got a very similar score to the Tokina.

That was on the 10MP K10D.
The point about the new test
is that it is on the 16MP sensor
used in the K-5.

It can happen that a lens performing well at 10MP
does not hold up so well at 16MP.
For example,
compare the 17mm corner performance
of the Tamron 17-50mm non-VC
on a 10MP versus 16MP Nikon DX.

(I believe that the need to keep up with the megapixels
was one of the reasons for Pentax
reformulating the 18-55mm kit lens.)

That's why I found it interesting to note that
the 35/2.8 Macro still looks good at 16MP.

Interesting that the Tokina version has a focus limiter. That would be nice on the Pentax.
