wide angle on the cheap

hi guys, im about to travel to Lisboa and i would like to go with a wide angle lens.
I have the 18-50 kit lens and i want to know your opinion on this. Ive seen a samyang 14mm and i read that the sigma 10-20 is a good lens... is there any alternative to these two lenses (with price in mind) thanks

I chose the Tamron 10-24. Sigma has had quality control problems; Tamron has had fewer such problems, as far as I know. And the Tamron costs less and has a longer warranty than Sigma or Pentax.

Sample price for the Tamron: Tamron SP AF 10-24mm f / 3.5-4.5 DI II Zoom Lens For B001P-700

There are also the Pentax 14mm and the Pentax 10-17mm fisheye at somewhere in the region of $400 used.

Or, the really poor man's solution: stitching using free software (it does take some practice, and work best for stuff that doesn't move).

This was 5 or 6 hand held vertical frames side by side with the kit lens:

$469 - $50 rebate from Amazon.
Amazon.com: Tamron AF 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5 SP Di II LD Aspherical (IF) Lens for Pentax Digital SLR Cameras: Camera & Photo

I have one too and its a nice lens. As I recall the Sigma is also an HSM lens and at the time I was a bit skeptical of the HSM reliability. Tamron got me my rebate in about 3-4 weeks as I recall without any hassles.

Samyang 14mm 2.8 UMC

It is a great lens with excellent resolution, great colours and contrast. Performs very nicely against the light. Nice build quality also. But it has two flaws: it has huge distortion, so it is not really good for architecture, but great for landscapes. Second, it doesn't allow to mount any filters, which is really a pity for a landscape lens. If you like to take photos of landscape, I would probably pick lens which supports filters, like DA14 or Sigma 10-20, although Samyang is likely superior to those in other aspects.

+1^^^^^^^ the samyang is excellent value and manual focus with UWA isn't difficult
In reality you could probably get it and the 8mm samyang for not far off the 10-20 price
