30 vs 43 vs 55 vs 77 Christmas Bokeh Shoot-out Special!

Just for a bit of fun I did a christmas light bokeh shoot-out.
Lens are :
Sigma 30mm f/1.4
Pentax FA43 ltd f/1.9
Pentax DA*55 f/1.4
Pentax FA77 ltd f/1.8

All lens were shot wide open, I will keep them unnamed for a while for a bit of fun, feel free to guess whats what, and tell me what you like there is no wrong or right answer regarding the bokeh everyone has different tastes

Set 1

Set 2

Set 3

Have fun
BTW, the order of lenses is different in every set.
And any differneces of colours are a result of flashing lights that change colours (the house is full of them) and a unlocked WB.

Very nice and I can see how this will be a fun exercise here. In set #1 I like photo #4 and in Set #2 its photo #3. No preference in Set #3 for some reason, just don't like any of them.

In set #1 I like the #2 (top right) photo, also the worst one I think is #4 (bottom right). #1 (top left) is pretty good, but it seems to be a lot busier than #2 pic.
In #2 set, #3 seems pretty bad.

I assume lens #2 is 77mm, mostly because of the perspective in set #3.

I think a lot of them are discernable based on differences in focal length. I think Stefan is right about the first set.

It would be interesting to shoot all of them at f2 and see how they look at that aperture.

Exactly--and how large the discs are is a good indicator of the focal length.

I think the top left is the 43, top right 77, btm left is 55 and bottom right 30 Sigma. The bottom left has lower contrast, top left has a busier bokeh, btm right has very different colour rendering, top right has a built in lens hood giving better contrast. Just a guess though

Not as hard as I thought it would be:

always going from top left to bottom right
Set 1:
77 - 55 - 43 - 30

Set2:
30 - 77 - 43 - 55

Set3:
43 - 77 - 55 - 30

conclusion:
in capable hands all 4 are clearly capable great results
I'm quite surprised just how close in OOF quality the 55 and 77 are!
I'm quite surprised to see so many cat's eyes OOF highlights, especially considering the FA Ltds are FF lenses, 55 is reported to cover 135 image circle too. I thought lenses with FF image circle would hold distinctive advantage over the APSC "only" Sigma, but it doesn't appear to be so!

Thanks for posting this one Simon!

I was just looking at Set #2, I am a Pentax n00b and have only used the 77 out of the four lenses(43mm in the mail though).
