I'm with Lowell on this lens. Without truly functional AF TCs much of the utility of a fast ultra tele zoom is lost IMO.

Well Sigma either hold their cards close to their chest and don't care too much about what Pentaxians think, or this lens ain't ever coming in K mount.

Kind of annoying, got the Sigma 70-200/2.8 and 100-300/4 (currently broken, think its just a dodgy mount connection, I hope), but have LBA, love motorsports and am heading to Africa in 2013 maybe. So now there's a cheap 300/2.8 going around here, would you try and get it or wait and keep hoping? If the 120-300 wasn't as sharp I wouldn't have a dilemma, but it's sharper and zooms! Godammit Sigma.

that isn't too much of a problem for me, because I have the option of buying one for my Nikon D3s

That 300/2,8 still has no bids on it, so if noone else bibs 1900.00 would be a steal for it.

I just got an email from Adorama saying the K mount 120-300/2.8 has been discontinued even before any were made.

I had heard that as well, it seems I will be getting one in Nikon mount after all especially since the Nikkor 200-400mm f/4G IF ED VR isn't quite fast enough for my kind of work, and there is a bit of waiting list for that lens - and it's performance at f/4 @ 200mm is rather disappointing - The sigma 100-300mm f/4 APO EX DG can beat it at the same focal length and aperture.

Well there was a rumor that it would be available in spring for K-mount. This was said at TeKaDe store in Germany (only hearsay).

I handled last week the first version 120-300mm with a Nikon camera and that is a very nice lens. I want it.

So ridiculous. If Sigma keep holding lenses back from k mount, eventually that might push me to Canikon (if Pentax doesn't step up). But if that happens, there's no way I'm buying Sigma lenses in those mounts anyway, I'll be buying L glass etc...so stupid...

Ugh, was hoping to find this lens for Pentax, alternative was to get it in Sony mount, also a moot issue. Not a fan of this news.

Since I get a couple of events where I'm stuck shooting far away from the stage, this would be ideal.

Not even Pentax is targetting the 2.8/300 marked at the moment...
And no, no Sigma wanted or needed here.

Get a hundred signatures for a DA* 2.8/300 easily.

The DA* 300 f/4 is better at f/4 than the Sigma f/2.8 is at f/4.

Granted (obviously) the f/2.8 is a stop faster but it seems like the better deal all around is to get the 300 f/4 and just buy the most up to date (least noise) body.

Of course if that doesn't work for you, you could buy a D700 and an AI-S (Pentax A equivalent) 300 f/2.8 for the cost of a Sigma 300mm F/2.8.

Never seen any evidence of that. Anywhere.
