older zoom autofocus?

I have been watching some interesting wedding videos where the person shoots at mid day, puts the sun to the back of the couple and then has a darker background in order to keep the photo from blowing out...anyway he is using a very high priced Nikor xx-200 F2.8. I was wondering if there are any autofocus lenses that are older, more affordable with good sharpness?
was thinking at least an F4 as this video calls for a very blurred background shot from a fare distance in order to compress the scene.

any thoughts would be appreciated.. No manual please as I already have that covered

thanks

The Sigma 24-135 f2.8-4.5 gets good reviews here, seems to be around $150-200 and would seem to fit your parameters well.

I'm happy with my F70-210 f4-5.6. Paid something like $70.
