AF K-mount 35mm or 50mm lens

So I used mostly my old 50mm 1.7 lens for a family party the other night because it's my fastest lens (also have the kit 18-55 and 55-300 lenses) and we didn't have the greatest light. A lot of my shots are just off focus though they looks like they were in focus on the live view and through the viewfinder. I know practice will help me out, but about what price would a good 35 or 50mm fast AF lens go for? Also recommendations?

The best inexpensive option for AF 35mm would be the DA 35 f2.4, which goes for around $180. Best 50mm AF lens is probably a used F or FA 50 1.7, which seems to be going for north of $225 these days, though if you look real hard you may find one for a bit less.

While I love my only AF prime, the FA50/1.4 (my gotta-get-the-shot lens) I'm also a cheap bastard, so I'll ask: have you tried CIF (catch-in-focus)? I shoot mostly MF primes, often fast ones (f/1.2-1.7), and my delaminating eyeballs depend on CIF, the poor guy's AF. Using CIF with my M50/1.7, I always nail the focus. Have you tried CIF? It's free!

I used CIF doing some macro shots with my A50 1.7 manual focus plus deglassed TC and it worked great. I have a Sears 80-200 F4 manual that I tried using CIF with and it didn't work so good. I don't know if it was me or the lens, but I couldn't get a good shot with it. But CIF is great, especially for old eyes.

You know what, I think I actually turned off CIF a few weeks ago. I totally forgot to turn it back on.

if it is anything like the Vivitar 90-230 I have, its focus throw is so short you can blow by the CIF pretty easy.

Is there a way to override CIF when it's on?

yes, switch switch back to MF - IIRC CIF only works while the switch is in AF mode.

Oh geez.

I never tried CIF before. It's amazing! Although it's not stopping me from buying the 35mm f/2.4... but maybe it won't entirely replace my 50mm 1.7. I'm pretty happy about that because I absolutely LOVE that lens, but it's such a pain in the <beep> to focus when you're trying to be quick.

Buy yourself a good manual focus screen; the cheapest (and arguably the best) solution for manual focus lenses!
