I feel sorry to spoil the party, but you probably have seen one of Pentax' spotting scopes. It's not uncommon in the birding and wildlife community to shoot with spotting scopes (also called "digiscoping").

I could be wrong though, but this is such a scope:

Just do a Google image search to see if I'm wrong or not...

Good choice I think. I made a picture of this combo at the Salon the la Photo in Paris:

with K-5

Maybe a gripped K-series? Maybe not a Pentax lens at all, just a Pentax cap (my lenses nearly never have the correct cap on them)?

Nope definitely not the spotting scope. I have a pf80ed with the pf- ca35 adapter so I know exactly what that looks like... Only thing I can think now is that either both that camera body and lens are brand new products being tested or they are from some other manufacturer but they were using a Pentax lens cap...

The couple were probably around their late 50's, this mouse hill looks younger in his profile pic... Might not mean anything but they were speaking German not Dutch... Of course Europeans are often fluent in several languages...

The adapter works really well!

Gives you something like a 1500mm focal length and you can even shoot handheld in bright sunlight...

Fixed aperture of 13.5 but you can get shutter speeds over 1/500s in reasonable light, I have had 1/2000s in bright midday sun... Then you can do handheld... This is where the k5 would be really good as you can make use of the high iso to get higher shutter speed...

I wish I could find a used one somewhere. I just can't see spending the $$$ ($419 on Amazon) on a new one!!

If you do a lot of distance shooting, like photographing wading birds or far off raptors then this is the only way to go... Tern roosts as well ...

You can also set the camera in TAv mode and the focus beep and dots will tell you when you are in focus..

Back to the original post, I still can't find anything that looks like that lens... It was almost like a reflex lens but too big...
