I bought my DA 15 last spring for slightly over $500 with tax and shipping at B&H so the prices have gone up some. It always pays to shop around because you will find some big differences. I bought my K5 at Adorama because they had the price at the time. When I was shopping for my DA 10-17, Amazon had the best price at the time. The lens that seems to have the biggest price swings is the DA 40 which I have seen for as little as $275 a couple of years ago to over $500 earlier this year and now I see advertised again in the $300+ range.
Right now (at B&H) the DA 15 is $509. The DA 40 is $339. DA 10-17 is $499. Adorama prices are nearly identical (within $1 on the first two, the 10-17 is $10 more).

Then the DA 15 is about the same still. All the Limiteds were around $500 back in March with a lot of them back ordered. I found the DA 40 in the Marketplace for $320. I get nailed for NY sales tax too. Still, their prices are usually the best and everything I have ever ordered gets here in a day or 2 with regular shipping. They sell such a large volume that they can take a smaller profit margin.

DA40 was never anywhere near $500 from a reputable dealer - but see my comment abput how some unscruplous dealers will try to trick you into paying outrageous prices by setting insane prices and hoping you never notice that Adorama and B&H offer the item for barely half as much. Then, when Adorama and B&H go out of stock temporarily, their artifically high prices will show up in a search as the best current price, and someone who doesn't realize this is a fluke might be tricked into actually paying $500 rather than waiting a few days for Adorama or B&H to get it back in stock.
