Pentax 6X7 135mm f4 macro

Has anyone tried this lens on a DSLR? I see how cheap they're selling for on Fleabay and I can't help but wonder if this might be a poor-man's 200mm macro in disguise.

I have recently picked up a 6x7 system with the 135 macro lens. First off it's a very nice lens all by it self. I also own an original 645 system with a few A series lenses for it. With the 645 A lenses I have a 645 to K mount converter. My experience with using 645 lenses on my DSLRs is ok but nothing stellar. I haven't done the 6x7 to K mount math but it's not that much different than a 645 which - as I recall - works out to about the same length on a APS-C sensor as on the 645 camera. So, I don't know where the 200mm in disguise comes in (although others may prove me wrong on that). Anyway, given that a 6x7 to K-mount converter would have to be factored into the cost and it will work in only fully manual stop down metered mode, it's a lens that should hold value and would be a cheaper way to go than say a DA 100 macro.

I do just that on my K20 with the Pentax K to 6x7 adapter and I also use extension tubes. It works well in manual but the assembly is large and heavy. Fine for table top subjects but rather big for a walk-around. I use it hand held with a bean bag support. The tripod mount on the camera with the 6x7 lens is a bit forward weight biased. All manual of course which is fine with macro.

I got into this because the lens was free.

It's because the 200mm macro was a FF lens. The 6X7 135mm macro would give about that same angle of view on an APS-C DSLR.

Is it maybe my turn to correct this nonsense? It seems it might be.

A 135mm lens is a 135mm lens. Always. No matter what format it was made for. (With occasional lies by marketing, but I don't think any lenses that can be adapted to K mount suffer from this.)

To put this another way: If you have a 135mm lens, it will give you the same angle of view as any other 135mm lens if you put them on the same camera.

The only real exception is lenses that change their focal length as you focus them, but that's really a case of the lens being a different length when focused close, it still doesn't matter what camera it was made for.

Hi All:

Can someone who shoots the 67, 135mm f/4 lens on an APS-c body post some examples here--I, for one, would love to see them. I shot several 67 lenses on my K20d via an adapter, but never shot this one, and I've got big love for Macro work too.

I've wondered about that myself, but the maximum magnification is only 0.3x.
