LBA 2011: what did you buy/keep in 2011?

I was reading MightyMike's post in DPR Pentax forum about his side business of buying and selling photo gears to support his photography hobby. And I was thinking that it might be interesting to share what we were into in 2011 not for the profit but for ourselves. Let me start.
I was looking for heavy artillery mostly:
  • DA*60-250/4
  • Tamron Adaptall-2 400/4
  • FA*300/4.5
  • Sigma APO 100-300/4 EX
  • Sigma APO 400/5.6 TeleMacro (yes, it is the one with 77mm filter size!)
  • Tamron Adaptall-2 180/2.5 Limited
  • Vivitar Series1 1.4X AF TC
  • Sigma 1.4X TC (non-EX, non-DG) - sent it back
  • Tamron 1.4X Pz-AF TC
  • Sigma APO 1.4X EX
  • Sigma APO 1.4X EX DG
  • ProMaster 1.7X Spectrum-7 Z AF - sent it back
  • Tamron Adaptall-2 200F TC (flat-field)
  • Three Tamron Adaptall-2 P/KA adapters
  • Set of genuine Pentax MF extension tubes in genuine Pentax box (lots of cracks on leather though)
  • Old Albinar 2X TC with AF contacts - I removed the optics and made a nice A-mode capable 20mmm extension tube.
  • And a few bags, ball-heads, new tripod, sidekick, monopod, etc. as usual on top of everything.
And I hope my wife will never see this list!
Happy New 2012 LBA Year to everyone,
SG

Got interested in F glass. Everything except the 35-135 is essentially mint. 70-210 looks like it just came out of the box.

Almost forgot: I sold Super Takumar 300/4 to KEH representative at Pasadena camera show in the summer. I'm not in selling gears business unfortunately :ugh:

it scares me to write it all down at once... I'm still waiting for one box to arrive from the US (reshipped by my mom) and it contains 3 mystery lenses (there is one of the K85-210 versions in that group of 3).

QuoteQuote:
DA15 - arriving soon
DA40 - love it but I think I will upgrade to the FA43 someday

K24/2.8 - possibly from the end of 2010
K35/3.5

M50/1.7
M50/2
M50/4macro

F35-70

SMC tak 55/1.8
Super tak 105/2.8

Promaster 70-200 or something like that - bundled with the K35/3.5
I will probably thin the herd a little in 2012 since I have a lot of duplicate focal lengths and I might have some exciting travel plans that need funding. How much thinning depends on exactly how much higher the prices are in Taiwan. I haven't found sold prices but every listing I've seen is really high. I would hate to part with some of these (K35 or tak 105 for example) but there's always a price. I have my core travel set DA15/40 and M135 with the A50/1.7, M50macro, M28/2.8 mixed in.

Buying plans
K-5 - maybe if the money is there. I would love to gain the iso improvement since I'm doing a lot of night photography.
M100/4 or DFA100 (nonWR because of $) - This would replace my M135 in my travel set giving me macro capability
that's about it unless money starts flowing in for an unknown source
If the numbers work and my mom is willing to reship I might buy and sell a lot though

In 2011 I fired:
- FA 50mm f1.4
- FA 31mm Ltd

In 2011 I hired:
- K200mm f2.5
- K50mm f1.2
- Wired shutter release

I know, it's not very exciting. But I do feel a more capable photographer concentrating my time exploring the fundamentals of photography and testing/expanding my capabilities with manual settings. Amazing photographs have been taken for decades, and I'd like to explore how.

2011 was really good for me in terms of LBA. First of all - I sold my beloved K-x and got even more beloved K-5.
I acquired following lenses:
Pentax: FA43 ltd, FA77 ltd, FA20/2.8, FA*24/2, FA*85/1.8, FA28/2.8. FA135/2.8, D-FA100/2.8 WR, A50/1.2, M50/1.4, M28/2, A70-210/4, K55/1.8, Super Takumar 135/3.5, Super Takumar 50/1.4.
Sigma: 24/2.8, 100-300/4, Sigma 400/5.6 non APO, 24-60/2.8, x1.4 EX TC
Tamron 17-50/2.8
Tokina 400/5.6
Promaster Spectrum 7 x1.7 TC
Vivitar MC4 x2 TC.
Porst 55/1.2
Pentax KX and K1000 film bodies.

Looking to try 645 film system in 2012.
Sold some of them since it was a bit too much for one year. Regretting selling sigma 24/2.8 and Tamron 17-50 to fund Sigma 24-60. But realized that I do not like zoom lenses in general (except Sigma 100-300).
Have a happy New Year, dear pentaxians! And let your bank account it 2012 will suffice your LBA!!!

I don't track my transactions by date. So sue me. I do know that in the past year, I haven't really sold anything significant -- not to me, anyway. Well, there was that sticky CZJ Biotar 58/2 that I bought and sold. Most of my sales were just lenses (and some bodies) that I found superfluous, not worth mentioning here.

Even though I scaled-back considerably in 2011, I can think of some significant additions:

* Tamron 10-24, my ultrawide solution
* Vivitar-Kiron 28/2.5; Tamron BBAR 28/2.5; Vivitar-Komine 28/2 CFWA -- a good week!
* Nikkor-O 35/2, easily modded to PK mount
* Kilfitt Makro Kilal E 40/3.5, the first macro lens
* K50/1.2 (and it was a good deal)
* Yashica ML50/1.4, DX50/1.7, DSB50/1.9
* Zuiko OM 50/1.8 and OM 135/3.5
* Argus Cintagon 100/3.5 and Isco Westar 100/4.5
* S-M-C Takumar 135/2.5 and f/3.5, and M135/3.5
* Sears-Tokina 55-135/3.5, my fave portrait zoom
* and various enlarger-projector-copy lenses

There are probably others. I'm too lazy to check the eBay accounts. Happy new year!

Good one. You are brave man, if you fired FA 31 Ltd.

On Feb 2011, I got a Pentax K-r with the DA-L18-55 my first non-phone camera. Then I got a Tamron 70-300 a couple of weeks later. A few months later I purchased a DA 35mm2.4 from ebay, which was followed by a 70mm Limited. With the primes, the front focus issue became apparent, so I returned the K-r and replaced it with a K-5 which had its front focus issues fixed. It was then followed by a 15mm Limited and then a Hoya ND400 filter.

This year I'm planning to sell all my lenses besides the 15mm Ltd (which I absolutely love) to fund a 16-50.

DFA100WR as a birthday present to myself in feb 2011; this one was on my list as a companion for the FA31Ltd.

M120/2.8 about a month ago; this was a real case of LBA because I don't need it, but it was an absolute bargain.

I can see i'm not in the big league of LBA, what a relief

Hired :
- Jupiter 9 85/2 (then fired)
- m42 adapter
- Reverse adapter 49mm (used to transform from OM to K mount)
- F50/1.7 (loved it but fired to found DA40)
- Kiron 28/2
- DA40
- Viv S1 70-210 /3.5 OM (convert in K mount)
- Reverse adapter 52mm
- Porst 55/1.2
- MZ-5N

Fired :
- Jupiter 9 85/2
- F50/1.7

It was such a pain to sell the F50/1.7 because it was soooooo awesome. I really miss it sometime. The 85/2 was not so beloved, it was not desired, got it on a misunderstanding ...

Sold:
DA55-300
K28 f/3.5
K30 f/3.5
K35 f/3.5
K50 f/1.2
K55 f/1.8
K135 f/2.5

Bought:
DA15 f/4.0 Limited
FA* 28-70 f/2.8
A50 f/1.2

I had a nice collection of Ks at one stage last year. Now I really want FA*s - The easiest to swap out was the K for an A 50 f/1.2.
