Amused: Opteka 650-2600mm High Definition Telephoto Zoom Lens for the 645D?

Amazon recommended this beauty to me during a search for something almost entirely unrelated:

Opteka 650-2600mm High Definition Telephoto Zoom Lens for Pentax K-2, K-M, K-5, K-R, K-X, K-7, K-2000, K20D, K100D, K110D, K10D and 645D Digital SLR Cameras

Really, we could go on and on about the specifications, but what I found to be the real beauty of this lens is the list of camera models that it works on.

First, we have the K-2, a film body that I had to look up circa 1975. A camera so vintage I had to look up the spec to make sure it was real.

Then we have an assortment of all the K digital bodies.

But what I find the most impressive is that this lens can be strapped onto the 645D. Wow, just to think that such a remarkable lens can be attached to such a versatile set of cameras. From a film body in '75 to the massive 645D. Who knew this glass could project a big enough image to fit on a medium frame sensor!!!

Amazing, simply amazing. But add to that it's price of $265.00 and it may be the cheapest medium format lens on the planet!

If you are interested in attaching this to your 645D, I think I can come up with only the highest quality snake-oil to cure all forms of ailment, which I am sure you'll be interested in.

As most people know, this "lens" makes a far better club for fending off robbers than an actual optical component on any of the bodies it will or won't fit onto.

I would be curious too. I have a very cheap Opteka 500mm f/8 mirror ($40 used) that served it's purpose when my daughter was rowing in college. Some of the courses were nearly 1/2 mile out on the water in a couple of locations and the lens got me some decent shots considering I was shooting a moving boat with manual focus. While there was an obvious IQ drop compared to my Sigma, I was able to dress up most in PP. The girls all liked them, as did their parents. One comment I got was an " I don't like a camera that shows my zits from across the lake".

i guess you can mount it on the Q, but i guess that your K 2000/13.5 could be a better lens
(i'd love to see how far you can see with such lens on the Q )

Well, paint me a sucker but we got it for practically nothing. Had a gift card and the wife decided to surprise me. Love her to death. Haven't had much chance to play with it just yet but I am going to need a caisson to haul it with. Took it out a little tonight mounted to a K-2000 and shot bald eagles in the late evening light. Need a lot of work before I am going to get anything close to a shot worth keeping. Will keep y'all updated as I get more of a chance to play with it and try to post some pics as I get some worth posting. (Next time, i'm not taking the 4, 6 and 10 year olds with me. Almost impossible to keep them out of the river).

I work with a guy who has a t2i and he was supposedly big into photography in the 80's. When I've showed off some of my big lenses, like the Sigma 170-500mm, 150-500mm, and 100-300mm f4, he was never very impressed. The reason? He has an Opteka 650-1300mm, lol.

Not impressed with the 650-1300. The lens is too big to handle with a standard tripod mount. The camera was bouncing all over the place. So I "soft mounted" it on a pillow on the top of the car and finally got a couple of passable pictures but nothing real impressive.

Despite any optical shortcomings, the lens may still have come in handy in the event of a bear attack.

Thanks Edgar, but I don't think I'm going to come across too many bears in North Central Indiana.

Recalled my experience of a Opteka filter.
Noticeably soft image when viewing at 100% crop image.

I always thought that stuff was called "duck tape". I often wondered what it was used for - it conjured up some startlingly interesting mental images concerning members of the Anatidae persuasion. Best say no more, eh?
