What series is the 80-320? What camera mode are you using with it?
Edit: I guess that'd be the FA 80-320. First thing would be thoroughly clean the contacts with a dry, lint free cloth. Beyond that... there are some known issues with this lens, especially if it's the black version. Check the reviews on the link.
Yes, someone told me to stay away from the older serial numbers on the Bejersey lens. I think those are the numbers that begin with a 4 and the ones I've seen all seem to be black.

I've seen some beautiful pictures that people have gotten from that lens on digital camera bodies.

Oh and Tweet, in case you are considering the 55-300mm, Adorama has the DAL version of that lens on ebay new for 239.00. Pretty good price. Don't know if you are in Eastern or Western Canada. But if you are in the east the shipping might not be bad.

Pentax SMC P-DAL 55-300mm f/4.0-5.8 ED Auto Focus Telephoto Zoom Lens #21897 (027075159327) | eBay

Hmm. Edited to add that they might not ship to Canada-I wasn't aware of that.

Adorama on Ebay won't ship to Alaska either, but on their website they do. Same prices.

yes Drom I checked and they don't ship to canada .. which could be a good thing for now, as i can't really afford both the lens, and I know I would 'have' to have it at that price :-)

oh no matt - I should not have clicked your link ....... it could be an expensive browse ...

I went with the SMC DA 35mm F2.4 AL (it feels like a little baby lens) lol
I think it will be fun, next one will be the Zoom one you recomended. (I loaded into my shopping cart a few times, but thought I best learn one at a time)

DA 55-300 is quite slow

DA 55-300 unfortunately would not be faster than 80-320, especially if the subjects are moving around.

hey Philoslothical

I am very much just a hobbyist, and admit it has only been about 2 months since I've started to try and understand the work behind the art of photography, but I like the lens, (ps buzz is about 1" small)

How much do you want to spend? Fast long zooms aren't cheap.

Since this is only a hobby under a thousand dollars would make me happy, and the more under the happier I would be. Is it even possible to find anythind decent for that price? I already have an older one.

The DA*60-250/4 would be splendid. It would also likely be more than a grand.
There are 3rd-party candidates but I'm not familiar enough to recommend any.
You want to shoot moving subjects, so cheaper manual-focus zooms are out.

C'MON PEOPLE, HELP ME OUT HERE!! WHAT'S AFFORDABLE AND LONG AND FAST??
