I'm pretty sure it's made by Cosina. Highly regarded lens -- if you get tired of yours, let me know, eh?

I have this lens.
Its the same one as the Cosina version.
Supposed to be designed by Tomioka.

There should be a couple of threads running about on this lens or the Cosina version on this forum.
Do a search for "Cosina 55 1.2" or "bokeh 1.2" and you should be able to fine them.

thanks to all

@Dave
is it worth owning 1 over the K 55 1.8?
how much did you pay for your copy?

K55 is worth every cent. Lighter, and all purpose use.
I have Yashica Tomioka version of this lens. Heavy to take around.

I use both, actually many more than two in 50/55 focal length.
The K55 is for outdoor, all purpose use. It is sharp, not completely blurred out the background, good for object isolation and still have the background in context.
For indoor use, any of the f1.2.

Bringing the K55 for both outdoor and indoor is ok too, but with some limitation. I use to bring only one of these and use it within the limitation - just bring the subject closer to the window/light source if i have k55.

The f1.2 requires more attention, both in shooting/focus and watch out the gear. I don't bring it out often due it's heavy weight. Any f1.2 should deliver excelent image quality in low light, given that you can focus correctly. Bottom line is if you can get a 1.2, go for it, and rethink when you want to sell the K55. K55 is not worth much compared to the f1.2 anyway.

I saw you have several 55 ;-)

K50/1.2 and A50/1.2 has buttery bokeh
Tomioka made has some hasher bokeh, but IMO somewhat thicker DOF
Both are very good for low light, CA/PF in daylight wide open.

well said Hoan, thank you very much. you made me think twice abiut the K 55 though. i dont really want to sell it but i dont want having same focals either.
You enligthen me on the issue of 1.2 and the 1.8...

i only have 1 55 now since im limiting my lens line up, here's what i own for now...
Super Takumar 35mm 3.5 (currently for sale)
CZ flektogon 35mm 2.4
M50 1.7
K55 1.8
Jupiter 37A 135mm 3.5
Vivitar 200mm 3.5 (Komine) and
Tamron 28-75mm 2.8

basing from your comment i think i might keep the K and get the 1.2

I don't think that "thinning out focal lengths" is a good reason to dump lenses, especially not good lenses, especially not Fifties -- which is why I have 50 Fifties, eh? My K50/1.2, SuperTak and FA and planar Yashica ML 50/1.4s, M50/1.7, Tomioka 55/1.4, various 55/1.8s including the SuperTak (same optics as the K), and some slower lenses, all have their own flavors. I'll use different ones depending on the light, subject, distance, desired sharpness and rendering and bokeh, how much gear I want to carry, and what the voices in my head tell me.

For instance: the K50/1.2 and Pentax 50/1.4s are great indoors or out, but only focus to 45cm. The Yashica 50/1.4 and Tomioka 55/1.4 only go to 50cm. If I want to go closer, but not so close as the MacroTak 50/4(1x) which isn't easy to focus at distance, then I'll use the Meyer Oreston 50/1.8 or CZJ Tessar 50/2.8 (alu, 12 iris blades) which focus down to 33-35cm, or the Porst Color Reflex 55/2.8 that goes to 30cm. I don't know about the 55/1.2 and 58/1.2 monsters, but I bet they don't focus real close. That's not their job.

That's just distance, easily quantifiable. Factors not-so-easy to measure like rendering and bokeh can be just as important. Is the Cosina 55/1.2 'better' than the K55/1.8? That depends on what you shoot and how you want images to look. I usually don't shoot squirmin' vermin (grandkids) with my 50/1.2 or 55/1.4 unless they're unconscious or otherwise sedated. I also don't shoot them in playpens with the Helios-44 58/2 because the busy bokeh could overwhelm them.

All these Fifties have good IQ. Whether any is 'better' is subjective and shifting. Is vanilla better than chocolate? That depends on what it's served with. Which lens is 'better' depends on what it's used for. Get and keep them all! The only Fifties I've sold were exact duplicates or unusable.

Actually, I don't hear any voices. I just act autonomously and wake up after a few months later.

there goes a butt kicking from my trusted prof., no worries Rio really appreciate your comments/teachings thanks again

the only things is i dont want to crowd myself with lenses (no offense meant)
1. no place to keep
2. wife will kill me for collecting lenses
3. number 2

kidding aside i really want to limit my collection to less than 10, this way i got to use and learn about their strengths faster.
am only missing in wide and fastest lens now... but price is a factor

Yes, they keep you mercifully sedated. You must start to worry when miniature invisible flying squids whisper seductively in your ears. I hate when that happens.
