Oh, those would replace some of the name brands. The Porst 55 instead of the Tomioka and Petri. The Porst 35 instead of the Isco. Maybe the Isco 105 instead of the SuperTak, and the Zuiko 135 instead of the SMC-M. The Accura 28 instead of the Kiron and SMC-M. I'll work on it.

Don't swap too many ;-) Stay safe. Smc has superb color rending, and some flare resistance too.

Not to change the subject, but I know you'll take an interesting assortment. The question that occurred to me while reading through your list was "How do you store all those lenses for transport?"

A Thinktank Glass taxi inside a roller suitcase, plus a small durable paper box to hold the K200/2.5 and M300/4, both with lens case. The K5, Ensinor24, FA50 and FA85 in backpack.
Don't know how RioRico can carry all his. We stay one place as a base, then flight to other locations and back.

Lenses that normal are not for use with a camera - like projector lenses, enlarger lenses, xray machine lenses, telescopes, bi/monoculars. in another word, whatever glass that can be mounted (or handhold) infront of a body by any mean.

I am not there yet, but soon, and still hope to avoid this kind of LBA.

oh i feel for you rico! it has been kindly "suggested" to me that I only bring 3 lenses for my 2 camera bodies on my 3 week trip to Europe in March. I am falling asleep each night trying to justify what lenses to take.

I can't imagine the nightmares you have each night trying to choose!

I got nothing for you either, but it looks like you're starting to narrow it down already?
It can be fun to do what Rio does (I never had his kit, but I remember the bag I could use as a spare bed), but traveling light has its pleasures. My last trip to Europe was on a Kx/K100d (both use AA batts) DA 15/21/40/70 and DA18-55/50-200. One body and lenses fit nicely into a little CameraSafe 100. The photos were every bit as good. The next time I travel light, I might replace the 18-55/50-200 with an 18-135 but I'm pretty happy.

How to transport: My daily carry-kit goes into my sling Ameribag. Most lenses sit in baggies inside a Domke F-2 bag. Small accessories (filters, chargers, adapters, etc) go in a Tamrac Expedition 3 pack. Overflow... well, I have another couple bags, but not for this excursion.

How little to transport: Yes, traveling light is good when schlepping stuff. I *could* pare down to my Mandatory Zooms (minus the bulky Betavaron) and the Minikit, plus selected fast light primes: Kiron 24/4, FA50/1.4, Nikkor 85/2. These and tubes and flash fit in my Ameribag.

Were I circling the globe on transit systems, I'd carry much less: m4/3 maybe. But I'm doing the driving, so I get to carry more. And since I have a pile of interesting gear, I may as well take some. Other trips, other challenges: Cross-country with only a Vivitar Series 1 70-210/3.5!

Non-camera lenses: As hoanpham said, any optical materials that can be stuck in front of a camera. The two major types, despite labeling, are enlarger lenses (ELs, with apertures) and everything else (no aperture). Some of the "everything else" have rather strange optics.

Gotta go now, but I'll be back later with an updated list.

Mmmm. I understand your problem. Just because I understand the problem (from experience) does not mean I have a solution for you, I have enough problems with myself. Best of luck.

in the past all i had was the 18-50 and 50-200. this was before i succumbed to LBA. they did me well but i hated swapping over when i got to 50 just for a little more length. i have tons of time to ponder on the issue though, so if i really do get stuck i'll ask the forum for assistance. the bonus (i guess) this time around is that i'll have 2 cameras, so theoretically i won't be swapping. but it does mean if hubby has one camera i need to wrestle it off him in time to still get the shot.

i can just see it now...

"just give me the camera dammit. i need to shoot this NOW!"
"but why??" as he smiles maddingly.

If it were me, I would take most of my kit (although I only have 45 lenses). Basically I would have my k mount primes (8mm-300mm) but I would leave my 400/5.6 home in favor of my 200-500/5.6 which is better and has more reach. I would take my complete m42 kit (16-200mm) and the I would take 4 AF zooms. 10-20, 28-75/2.8 70-200/2.8 and eithe the FA-J 18-35 or DA 18-55.

This plus my digital bodies, 1 film body just in case plus a couple of flashes.

Day trips would pare this down quite a bit but I can see me using most of it in complementary terms with different lenses (focal lengths) mounted on different bodies.

Whatever you're smoking, you need to share it with us.

And that's why the DA18-250 is great. No missing shots whilst swapping lenses. The IQ of a missed shot is zero, near as I can tell.

My travel strategy: Use the 18-250. Arrive somewhere. Use the 18-250. Recce the terrain, taking mental notes. Walk the terrain later with selected primes. Then walk it again with just one prime (and backups in the bag). Repeat until it's time to go. Depending on spaciousness and prudence, substitute the 10-24 or 170-500 for the 18-250. Run when necessary.

I got away with that a few years ago. No more. I could still do it if I had a Bob.Harris-type battleship motorhome. Or a cargo droid.
