FA43 has a special/different rendering so at some point you might go for it. But with 21/31/77 you should be perfectly okay in many situations. And if not, your feet are to the rescue
Yeah. Actually when I had my K-x, i used the 43mm on it for a couple days and it was awesome. If the 31mm can satisfy my LBA, then i might skip over the 43mm.

Shot with 43mm

+1 for the FA43. It's the best of the trio for me. I found the 77 too long and focus extremely slow under low light condition.

I've decided to come back to pentax after going from k-x to D7000 and now to the K-5. There's nothing wrong with the D7000 but I just wanted something a little more compact and to be able to get awesome primes without paying 1500ish for a used 35mm or 24mm. Anyway, I was just posting to get some feedback on which lens would be a good next step.

I purchased the K-5 with a 31mm so I feel like i'm pretty set for now. I was planning on getting the 43mm, 77mm and 21mm later on but the real question is which one should come next. I thinking of the 21mm in last place since I usually like shooting tele more than wide and 21mm is only for certain occasions such as group shots or landscapes.

So it comes down to 43mm or 77mm. I used to shoot with the sigma 85mm a lot and that became my fav lens. However, I'm not sure how often I will be in a situation to be shooting that far away now that I have graduated from college and do not go to as many events. So would it be silly to get the 43mm next just to change it up a bit whenever I don't feel like using the 31mm? I think it's also a little easier to justify the 43mm since it's a bit cheaper. Let me know what you guys think.
Go for the FA77 its a better pair to the 31.
Or if you dont mind something a bit bigger, consider the DA*55 f/1.4 its FOV lies perfectly in the middle between the 43 and 77

I like the 43mm a lot... since it is the smallest of the three. Depending on your usage... I find that I don't use the 77mm as much as I use the 43mm indoor. I have all three plus 12-24mm otherwise, I would add the 21mm as well.

So I guess it's 43 for indoor? and 77 for a walkaround?

I use the 31 in doors most of the time, 77 if I want close ups. The 77 is real nice for street scenes.

For those who have both the 31mm and 43mm, which situations are you using the 31mm and which situations do you pull out the 43mm?

I have the following: DA15, FA31, FA43 and the FA77.

They're all great lenses. I use the FA43 more than the FA31 for several reasons.

1) Its much smaller and lighter making it much more portable

2) My copy of the FA43 is sharper than my copy of the FA31

3) I find the FA43 creates a pop out (3d like) effect not present in the FA31

4) The focal lengths are quite different to me. The FA43 is better for taking candid portraits of kids at play. You have to get too close with FA31.

The FA31 is much better for group portraits and has better bokeh.

The FA77 is my favorite of the four. However, its focal length is only useful in limited circumstances.

I have NFI why but I use the 43 constantly, my gallery does not reflect this but for baby photos it has barely left the camera. I have the 21/43/77, I was just not using the 35 f/2 at all.

I mostly prefer the 31 nowadays. It is more versatile for my casual shooting and the bokeh is better than with the 43. However the rendering of the 43 is special (hasher, stronger pop-out effect) and I found its focal length very useful for candids of people in a room.

I'm trying to work out which limited FL to get too.
I have the FA31 and pretty sure I would get FA77 and A50 1.2 , Although I love the sounds of the 43 its just too close to the 31 for the money (I'm thinking DA40 OR DA40XS instead as a compact lens for my Kx). And one more, probably my next lens DFA 100 macro WR (31-50-100)

My question pretty much how many people have the 31,43 and 77 , and do you use the 43 or do you use a 50-55 instead?

Just to add, if I was only able to afford one it would be the FA43

I have 30,43,55,77

I use 55mm way more than the 43mm, 43mm is in no mans land most of the time on aps-c.

FA Limited 77mm.
A good standard zoom, or shoe leather, will cover the other focal lengths.
