FA limited Trio + 21mm

I've decided to come back to pentax after going from k-x to D7000 and now to the K-5. There's nothing wrong with the D7000 but I just wanted something a little more compact and to be able to get awesome primes without paying 1500ish for a used 35mm or 24mm. Anyway, I was just posting to get some feedback on which lens would be a good next step.

I purchased the K-5 with a 31mm so I feel like i'm pretty set for now. I was planning on getting the 43mm, 77mm and 21mm later on but the real question is which one should come next. I thinking of the 21mm in last place since I usually like shooting tele more than wide and 21mm is only for certain occasions such as group shots or landscapes.

So it comes down to 43mm or 77mm. I used to shoot with the sigma 85mm a lot and that became my fav lens. However, I'm not sure how often I will be in a situation to be shooting that far away now that I have graduated from college and do not go to as many events. So would it be silly to get the 43mm next just to change it up a bit whenever I don't feel like using the 31mm? I think it's also a little easier to justify the 43mm since it's a bit cheaper. Let me know what you guys think.

I'd go for the FA77 in your case

Although I really like FA43, I would suggest you to go for the FA77. Combining it with the FA31 will give you more possibilities than a FA31 and FA43 combo. And when you add the DA21, which I like a lot, you'll have most standard situations covered, imo.

Well, would you consider a "fast fifty" or thereabouts later,
say DA*55, ZK50/1.4, or VL58 Nokton?
In that case, the FA43 might be redundant,
at least in terms of focal length.

I think the 43mm will be the least used lens if you have 21/31/43/77. 31mm is a perfect focal length (not too wide, not too long). If you need longer, you will more than likely grab the 77 and not the 43.

Based on what you said (about not seeing the need for a long lens such as the 85), I would say go for the 43. I see that I use it more than the 77. 31 is my most used of the trio. That said, you should definitely spring for the 77 at some point. I have no experience with the 21 though (Heard great things about it)

I would say 77mm also- it's so close to 85mm, which is by far my favorite FL. You'll be able to use it for everything!

Funny.

But, I'd get the 77 first over the 43 to get some separation in FL's.

+1 I agree, I rarely shoot over 50. to be honest I think 50 is too tight for me, and the 35 is a lil too wide (unless it's for group pictures) That's why I'm aiming to get the 43. But again I'm just here to see everyones opinions

Yes, that would be my approach too. The 43mm is great. I love it and bought it after the 31mm - but I already had the FA 85 and did not need the 77mm. One big advantage the 43mm has, is its tiny size, which makes it a very convenient always in my bag lens.

FA43 has a special/different rendering so at some point you might go for it. But with 21/31/77 you should be perfectly okay in many situations. And if not, your feet are to the rescue
