OS or not?

There are two types of the Sigma 17-70mm F2,8-4,0 DC Makro HSM one with OS and one without - the one without is obviously quite a bit cheaper

which one would be better on a K-5?
If I understand correctly is the OS more in the way than useful, is that correct?

thanks for your help

Is the one without OS cheaper? If so, just get the non-OS one.

I have the 17-70 2.8-4 with OS, and I leave OS off all the time. I use my tripod a lot for taking pictures of objects in my room, and for landscapes, and I wouldn't remember to always turn off that OS on the lens.

Yeah, get the non-OS version- Sigma is starting to take the OS out of their Pentax lenses anyway because it's not better than SR at short focal lengths.
