Sigma 17-70 OS version question

I just got one Sigma 17-70 DC OS HSM and i have 2 questions:

How do i know what is the position for mounting the lens? Does not have a "red dot" or something.

How do i know OS is working? I disable SR in camera and enable OS on lens? Should i see something through viewfinder?

Thanks.

There is no red dot on this lens, annoyingly, but if you compare it to a lens with the red dot, you will notice that the Sigma has a screw in the same position. So as long as you orient the lens generally correct (bayonet on the lower right going into the body) you can use that screw to align.

There is no indication of the OS working except I think you can see it adjusting for motion in the viewfinder. I haven't used OS on this lens since I got it though.
