The posted images mostly look a little underexposed to me, but that might be because I'm on my netbook right now, not my desktop.

But the color rendering looks beautiful!

I'm tempted to pick one up.

In the case of mine, its user error, nothing to do with the lens. I'm still re-learning to "drive" a manual lens

I'm pretty much over mine now. LOL! Well at least it was cheap. I've gone back to using the FA43. I'm getting lazy and want AF. I'm saving fr the DA*55.

I'll repeat what I wrote 5 months ago:

I think this lens is perfect for a new user with a new camera who wants a new lens to delve into manual focus usage, cheap. Not everybody is comfortable buying used stuff. It's entirely rational. I started my journey through dSLR-land with all new gear. If this had been available then, I might have grabbed it.
No, it's not for everyone. No, it's no FA43 nor DA*55 nor even an A50/1.7. But it's a safety blanket for MF noobs. I'll accept a d*o*n*a*t*i*o*n.

humm just let's go this way: a 50mm f1.7 is a very very very classic lens, it is so classic that there won't be sooo much difference between this one and the FA1.7, M 1.7 and other 1.7 lenses.
=) you can try it.
And another option is a phenix 50mm f1.7, I have this one and it's pretty good.

horusbennu 50mm 1.7

i dig this lens! any tips appreciated - please review photo, not subjects.

horusbennu 50mm 1.7 < $58
fotga adapter from ebay < $12
olympus e-pl1 from amazon $150

total investment < $220 to learn ICL photography (thanks to top 2 reviews at Amazon for E-PL1 body only). i still dont own an AF lens yet (although that's gonna change really soon).

i exposed +.7 based on what i've seen here.

should i still get the SMC 1.4? will it make much of a difference? i was bidding on ebay for the 1.4, but got outbid twice. So i figured i'd buy a new horusbennu lens. if results didn't turn out well, at least i reduced the variables.

do u guys have any suggestions for wide manual legacy lenses (wide to the point where perspective is bending).

James

I own this lens for a while, and it's pretty good for the price. At full aperture the bokeh is very strange and sometimes poetic, I suppose the coma is huge. Once stopped down, it's sharp enough for my K5. I use it mainly on film with my K1000 and it performs perfectly.

Here are some pictures I've taken with it at the Musée du Louvre.

If I didn't have a pair of 50 1.7's already I'd be tempted by this thing. Very intriguing little lens!
