Bokeh on 50 mm

Hi All,
Definitely will not be the first, but here some bokeh samples from different lenses.
It seems like Rikenon and SMC Pentax 50 are the best.

Beautiful- I like the first the most also, but I think the difference between it and the Pentax lens might be because of a different camera position.

Thank you, Adam.
Yeah you are right, there might be a case. I mistakenly took a picture with SMC Pentax but at 5.6 and had to retake, tried to get the same camera position.
Just uploaded one more taken with Helios.

Agree re the Helios, very different colour rendition compared to the others (imo).

You might change your mind about the Rikenon with a little different subject matter. My 2 copies of the XR Rikenon 50/2 have incredibly "nervous" bokeh when the background is complex. Otherwise, both are nice lenses (very sharp and contrasty).

Would be good to see some examples.
If you could upload a couple of pictures it would be great.
Thank you

To do a fair comparison, you should keep all lenses wide open or stopped by the same number of f-stops from open. When you compare an F2 and and F1.4 at 2.8 the first one is just closed down one stop so the aperture blades are still very round compared to the F1.4 which is stopped down 2 stops and you have more pronounced corners. That's why a lens with more blades (or rounded ones) will maintain its round aperture even if it is closed down significantly and generally will produce better bokeh.

Also, it looks that not all images were taken from the same position and/or focal length. The focus is not the same either; the ones with the Vivitar and Pentax 1.7 are clearly out of focus. All these variables will influence the final appearance.
