DA*55 or FA31?

I can't choose... obviously the FA31 is much more expensive, can I expect the IQ to be that much better?

I do have a VL58/1.4 coming, but I'd like the DA*55 eventually for the AF.

Mostly for portraiture and a walk-around lens.

It looks that it is easy. VLS 58/1.4 is very close to DA*55.

With 31mm and 58mm in your bag you will have a lot of fun.

regards

If you already have a 58mm coming it makes sense to get a 31mm to pair with it.

I have the VL58mm and the FA31mm. They pair together very well and I can recommend highly these two lenses.

Both lenses are fast (f1.4 & f1.8), with excellent IQ. The FA is AF and the VL is MF. I tend to use the FA31mm for moderately lighted conditions, and the VL58mm for poor lighting conditions. In poor light, AF is never working well and I prefer by far to use MF. The VL focus ring is very smooth and precise, making the VL lens perfect for very low light.

Food for though... and hope that the comment may help.

31 is pretty short for portraits, and single prime is not really a walk-around...but I'd get the 31 first.

The FA31 would be great for full body shots or group shots. As much as I love my FA77, it's long for anything other than half body shots.

Thank you all for your suggestions. I'm considering the FA31 for now.

OMG the VL58/1.4 sold out at camera quest... I never checked out correctly (went through it too quickly) and when I went back it was sold out.

Where else could I find one?

They're pretty different. I went with the 31. Works great, wish I had full frame though. The 55mm looks pretty dope too. I'm going to skip it though... I'd rather buy a Fuji XP-1.

The K-mount version of the VL lenses was discontinued about 2 years ago unfortunately, Nonetheless we can still find a few in stock, but it is rarer and rarer. Some are also listed in the PF marketplace, and you could put a Wanted ad at the PF markeplace. (It works: I got two relatively great lenses this way.)

Food for thought....

How about getting DA55 plus Sigma 30 f1.4 combo if you don't have the VL58.
