The Mk2 of this awesome lens has been announced, just thought i'd share.

Doesn't look like it's going to be available in the Pentax mount according to those specs!

Are Pentax and Tokina still sharing optical formulas after the Ricoh takeover? I suppose anything they worked on together in the last few years might still be shared.

They were sharing optical formulas, however there was some agreement that prevented Pentax from using some of the lenses that Tokina produces. I wish the 11-16mm would make its way over to Pentax, but I doubt it will as it hasn't in the last several years.

I wouldn't hold my breath on this, I hope you are right but many third party manufacturers are clearly favoring the more profitable canon EF / Nikon F lens mounts.

The Nikon version 11-16mm is superb.
What Pentax needs to do...NEEDS to do is have a DA* 10mm lens (or 8mm if they want to go crazy) with weathersealing. No one else has a rectilinear prime that wide.

yea...their "partnership" has done pentax users a whole lot of good.

if it did make it over to pentax I wonder how much more expensive the pentax version would be.

tokina 35 macro vs pentax 35 macro

$300 vs $540???

They even make the 11-16 for sony.

For $799, you can get a new, rectilinear, Pentax 8.5mm prime (and a free camera to go with it) :

To be fair the Pentax lens is all metal, and the Tokina is not built as well, but I'd sure like to have the option to sacrifice build quality and get the same optics.

You forgot to mention about 10 other primes that are needed and would find buyers...

Talking DA only: 1.4/22, 1.4/30, 2/135, 2.8/300, 4/600, 1.4x, 2x, 1.4/15, 5.6/400, 2.8/70-200, 4/200macro, 4/200-400
Not sure where to insert a 10mm prime.
