Good "fast" auto focus lens covering 20-80mm range?

as title mention, i am trying to sum up the "options" for 2x-80 mm range lens.
by "fast" i don't mean f1.4 or f1.7, a fix f2.8 is fast enough, or anything under f3.5.

the lens would be mainly for walkaround portrait & some landscape.
since it is for portrait i prefer AF lens (children)

i know the Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 is a good choice, but it is a little pricey for me.

anyone has any suggestion?
Thanks.

Tamron 28-75 is well-regarded by most people. Used can be found for bit over $300. It's not really wide enough for a casual single-lens option. i.e., "walk-around". I sacrificed the speed for range and went with an older-version Sigma 17-70.

oh yes the tammy 28-75, it is well made for a pretty reasonable price.
it will probably be my next target if i can't find another one that's more valuable than it.

I've never tried the tokina normal zooms, but as far as I've heard, the 28-70 f2.6-2.8 is better.

Tokina originally got these lens designs from angenieux, a world renowned french optical company that now mostly makes lenses for movie cameras and scientific appliances, and as far as the normal zoom goes, it seems that the earlier the version, the better.
