There is a Da* 50-135 going on ebay and im dying for one and have just sold a DA 70 to fund getting one but im a wondering is this over hyped all this SDM failure? The main reason im asking too as there is a Squaretrade warranty option and im wondering if that holds up to much. I could wait and buy one new with a two year warranty but i'd love to keep the extra funds towards a FA 43 limited. Any help much appreciated!

well during 2011 I purchased a total of 5 second hand Pentax SDM lenses including 2 DA*50-135's---one for me and one for my daughter.
All 5 have been good. The others included a 60-250, for me, and DA*200 for my daughter, and a DA*300 which I resold after 6 months
because I wa able to buy a FA* 300/f2.8 which I really wanted all along. I've also owned a DA*16-50 since 2007 without issues, and it is my walking around lens. I've never had a winning lottery ticket, and don't have a closet stuffed full of door prizes.

I have saved enough buying this stuff used that although I wouldn't like it, I could bite down on one and still be ahead.

I sure hope not - my 50-135 just came today! I bought from the marketplace here. I have the 16-50 as well, no problems in 2 years.
