If given the choice between FA43/1.9 and V40/2, I'd choose the FA43/1.9
If they would cost roughly the same I would choose the Pentax as well, but here in Europe the price is about 550 € for the FA43 and 330 € for the V40. This is 220€ more for the Pentax. Since AF at this focal length is not so important for me, I will take the V40.

And consider this: You will get the V40 + V58 for the price of the FA43 almost!

550euro for the 43mm is a lot of money ... You can buy it for 300 EUR new from Henry's SMC PENTAX-FA 43mm f1.9 LIMITED/BLCK/*ist/K10D/RARE/NEW bei eBay.de: Film Camera Lenses (endet 07.01.08 03:02:52 MEZ)

Well add to that 27 Euro postage and then 23% customs duties.
Gives about 415 Euro.
Still quite good.

Yes good price even after shipping and customs . To tell you the truth I never paid customs for small packages from Canada from Henry's and some other friends didn't too , who ordered from Henry's . Of course the price was available for anyone to see , outside of the box . But I'm in UK so I don't know about you , but still if you are ready to pay customs , go for it .

If you don't care about autofocus , go for the voigtlander ! But have you tried either the FA43mm or the ultron manual focus ring ? Which one did you like best ?

Thanks !

I have not yet seen the Voigtländer.
If it's out, I will get one and test it.

Here are many fullsize test images taken with the Ultron 40 mm:

yˆÉ’B~ˆê‚̃Œƒ“ƒY‚ª—~‚µ‚¢ƒb!zƒRƒVƒiuƒtƒHƒNƒgƒŒƒ“ƒ_[ Ultron 40mm F2 SL II Asphericalv

Note that the first test images are fullframe, taken with a Canon 5D.

The following real-life shots are divided in fullframe (Nikon D3) and APS-C format (Nikon D300).

Unfortunately I cannot make any sense of the Babelfish translation.

The sample picture looks nice.

BTW, I did not see any "A", setting on the ring. This means that we have to do manual metering, correct?

I have received my Ultron today.
Here are some images of the lens etc:

(text in German)

What I can say already:
This lens is a mechanical dream!
Like the old K/M lenses.

Nice unveiling shots. I see they have changed to a centre pinch lens cap rather than the screw in type. The almost circular aperture blades are amazing. Look forward to looking at some more images with this lens. Test images look damn sharp.
