What's with the PF initial page claiming that the DAL 50mm f/1.8 does not replace the FA 50mm f/1.4 in the lineup? It clearly does. It's a cheaper alternative to the DA* 55mm.
I don't think leaving the FA 50mm 1.4 off the roadmap was an accident. It is discontinued and they're just selling off the existing stock.

That's what I take from the combination of it disappearing from the Roadmap and the announcement of the 50/1.8. Fortunately, I have an FA50/1.4.

I can hardly wait! I've been waiting for a long Pentax lens for a looooooong time. I was almost ready to buy the Sigma 500mm, but now I'm going to have to wait until this comes out and see how the quality is. I know it's not a * lens, but one of my favorite newer lenses is the 12-24 and that's not a * lens either. Couple that with a TC and Pentax just filled a gap that has been left empty for way too long. I sure hope both are awesome quality! I just wish the 560mm was a bit faster, but I can live with what they are offering if the quality is there.

Yay Pentax!!!!

That's the ONLY thing about the roadmap that I don't like. The FA 50 1.4 is a great lens and could have filled in the position of the now added DA 50 1.8 much better.

I'd sooner see one of the older f/1.7 or f/1.8 50mms reincarnated as a DA than the continuation of the FA50 f/1.4, I think it fits better in the lineup, and is overall a better lens (in my opinion). In an ideal world, the f/1.4 would also be reincarnated as a DA too, but there's no room for three 50s.

Shame it looks like it will be a DAL though . I lot of people have said they would pay more for the DAL 35mm to be given a metal mount etc and brought up to "regular" DA standards, and I think the same will apply to the new 50mm.

Having said all that, I have an FA 50mm f/1.7, which is ideal.

Now, we have a standard and portrait prime, all that's missing is a cheap fastish wide prime, say an 18mm f/2.8, and there would be a set.

It's a bummer that the FA 50/1.4 is being discontinued but it's really the odd man out imo. Pentax needs to expand the DA-(unofficial L) lineup as a draw to pull in new customers. Between 40 and 55mm Pentax will have the DA40 (2 versions), FA43, DA50 (new) and DA*55. Two premium options, a mid range price option and 2 cheap options. oops left out the macro.

I think a 24mm DA (L) would be a big seller although that would probably end any chance of adding a re-engineered version of the FA*24/2. I could also see a DA(L) 18mm but it won't be f2.8.

I'm interested to see how similar the FA 50 1.4 and DA 50 1.8 are. Don't get your hopes up that it is a 1.7 reincarnate (although it very well could be). I rarely use my FA 50 wide open, and when I do, its really often to get a soft look that many of you tend to abhor. If they just cropped the glass to make it APS-C only, and brought the aperture down, you could have a very attractive, light, high quality, less flare-prone (!!!) version of the FA 50 1.4 for less than 250 dollars, taxes in. Sounds like a bomb deal to me, and it would be much better than the Nikon / Canon 50 1.8 offerings. If it was the 50 1.7, sure, it would be sharp, but stopped down OOF would not be any better than the Nikon / Canon offerings.

In any case, I agree about the DA L 24mm.. it could be 2.8. You would have your standard 35mm - 50mm - 85mm (roughly) replacements. Although don't hold your breath, because the DA 21 is pretty much the same thing.

Ricoh gave us this because its their way of saying that they care and believe we deserve to now that they care

But i have a strong feeling that some focal lengths in there are very accurate. And that some lens names (DA) are NOT accurate.
Ricoh as a plan and we will be happy.

LOL you may have to wait a while i think a 24/28/85/135 will sell far more units than a pretty specialty UWA and they are all on a lot of wish lists as well (the 24 is the really big missing 35mm fov missing item the 28 would be a nice wider normal than a 35. the 85 and 135 are also pretty high demand but need not be inexpensive entry models whereas a DAL 24 2.8 and 28 2.4 would sell bucket loads I think. the only reason Sigma can support an 8mm and an 8-16 zoom is they spread it across 4 mounts (and fill a hole canikon and sony haven't covered well)

Yeah, but the 8-10 prime might appease some of the people who just want FF for the wider FoV... If it's quality was anywhere near the DA 12-24 or DA 15Ltd it would sell very well.

I'm pretty happy with the lineup, although personally, I'd get the teleconverter out sooner, as it should be an already completed unit as it's been shown and teased for some time already.
A DA* 20-80mm would compete directly with the Tamron and Sigmas and be WR, let's see the pricing on it.
The DA 100-300, I'm not so sure of. It could make a nice complement to the DA 18-135, it may be a WR version of the 55-300 people have wanted, or it could be mediocre.
The DA 560 should make a good number of people happy, although it's not on my own immediate list, although the TC + DA* 60-250 may be.
The ~20-200 may be a replacement of the DA 18-135, or simply another option. I'm curious why they didn't just bring back the old 18-250 instead, so will be interested in seeing the specs and performance on it.

All in all, with the pair of UW offerings and the TC, it's not a bad attempt IMO of covering a decent range, and there's something in there for most.

The onliest lens I'd like to see on this roadmap that's missing is a nice widish (24mm or 28mm) DA* prime with WR. I would think that a wideish * or limited WR prime would sell like hotcakes. It doesn't even need to be super fast a F2.5 or F2.8 would be fine. The shortest WR prime is 55mm, I'd like to see something at half that focal length.

Bonjour,

I would agree here ... such an UWA and/or WA "WR" would do well ... the WR niche should be more exploited and developed IMHO.
