Hoping new DA 50/1.8 will be like DA 35/2.4 ...

The onliest lens I'd like to see on this roadmap that's missing is a nice widish (24mm or 28mm) DA* prime with WR. I would think that a wideish * or limited WR prime would sell like hotcakes.

Bonjour,

I would agree here ... such an UWA and/or WA "WR" would do well ... the WR niche should be more exploited and developed IMHO.[/COLOR][/B][/I]
There's no ultra-wide angle suggested here. A 24mm would be a mild wide angle, a 28mm would be a normal.

But 24MM on a FF would be wide enough

That was kind of my thinking ... 24mm on a FF would be not too bad ... not an UWA, but a good start ... Allez et A+, J

I don't think leaving the FA 50mm 1.4 off the roadmap was an accident. It is discontinued and they're just selling off the existing stock.
Not true. The Japanese Product Manager confirms in the below interview that the FA 50mm 1.4 remains in the line up at a different price point to the DA 50. That suggests pricing for the DA 50 should be closer to that of the DA 35/2.4.

road map

I can't seem to get my mind off the DA* lens on the map. I really hope this is going to be an updated FA* 24-70. I can't shell out the $1200 for a used FA*, and from what I've seen/heard about the DA* 16-50 I am struggling with that purchase as well.
Anxiously awaiting more info on this lens!

DA* 20-80 not wide enough

If this is a replacement for the 16-50 it falls a bit short on the wide side. I like the 80mm but wouldn't give up my 16 mm on my current 16-50 to get this new lens.

It would be wide enough if it could be paired up with a DA*10-20. Then again nothing wider than a 12 is shown on the lens roadmap. Still I love my DA*16-50, but do wish it could be slightly wider and longer without giving up any IQ.

I am curious re the proposed DA Limited zoom, it's range is so useful for my application, I wish it would be a straight f2.4 on all FL. Now that's one small zoom!

I also like the upcoming DA*, no need to change lenses during bad weather, but I loathe the waiting game.

the map isn't very specific

Since its a DA not an FA I would bet it's a 16-70 2.8 (the apsc version of FF 24-105 f4.0) which makes it likely to fall at $1200-1300 since canon is about 1350 with IS in lens
that FL could be my complete walk around and travel lens (if i'm trying to limit it now i go with a 14 and 24-70 both 2.8)
paired with a fast 50 for low light and it is 95% of my shooting needs
could be very tempting indeed

So, I was fairly excited about the new roadmap; it didn't solve the problems for 'everyone,' but had some interesting things to look forward to.

With the new pricing, how many actually still care about the new roadmap?

With the pricing changes (e.g. DA* 60-250 and others almost doubling in price), how many have gone from 'interested and had plans to purchase' to 'who cares'?

Bonjour rtpguy,

I can imagine how this gave a cold shower to many an American Pentax user ... very regrettable.

Bon courage, J Frog
