This update added pretty much zero information to 3 years of speculation, except that the TeleCon is back on.

Interesting! Perhaps the 50mm is just a refresh of the FA50/1.4 then...

As far as I'm concerned, the new roadmap (and the K-01) indicate commitment to the K-mount — that in and of itself is encouraging.

Like someone else said the 50 will probably be a DA-L like the 35 2.4, or it would have been labeled a limited or a * lens.

Not a great lens for Canon. Tries to do too much at either end with terrible vignetting wide and quite soft long.

OTOH, the Nikon 16-85mm is decent, the Sony/Zeiss 16-80mm is quite good, and the Olympus ZD 12-60mm is phenomenal. Pentax can make a good lens in the FL range if they want to.

k-5 replacement expected in spring, FF option expected end of the year "Well, where are the new lenses? We've been stuck on DA lenses for years now!"

I'm interested in seeing what this DA Limited Zoom is all about. Focal length seems good. If it's a Limited, then the build quality should be good. But the Limiteds, other than the FA's, are not particularly fast for primes. What will the max aperture be?

I'd guess it will be compact more in virtue of limited zoom range (only 20–40mm or thereabouts) than slow aperture. Even f/2.8 constant could be quite small (for a zoom) with a limited FL range, though that's optimistic admittedly.

Actually it was a 1.4x. But if it is like the AFA 1.7 for MF lenses...

The FA*28-75 upgrade is interesting too. I guess the DA550 is for birders and astroguys.

The FA 50mm f/1.4 is not listed on this roadmap, so perhaps they'll just update the current model to DA (no aperture ring, perhaps reduced covering power, bayonet hood mount, etc). Hopefully they'll keep it at f/1.4 and add the DC motor from the 18-135.

I agree, f/1.8 with a plastic mount, the same treatment they gave the FA 35mm f2/ DA 35 2.4. That does seem to me like the right thing to do.

1.4X makes more sense, since it's most likely to be paired with f/4 lenses.
