Looking for landscape lens recommendation

Can I ask you guys which K lens are the best for landscape photography? I typically shoot wider and dont do a ton of real telephoto work. Can I get a suggestion for a prime and a wide-ish zoom? Looking for the best quality here. I am looking to buy to use with a K-5. I may start with a zoom for more flexibility and add the prime later.

Thanks!

There are so many good primes. The Zeiss 28/2 is a fine one. So is the 31 limited.

widish zooms: Sigma 8-16, DA12-24, Tamron and Sigma 17-50/2.8's

I would suggest the DA 15 or DA21 for the wide prime.

Personally, I went with the DA21 because that focal length fit me better and it was a bit faster. If I lived somewhere with more open spaces, I would have probably gone with the DA 15.

The suggestions of DA 12-24/4 for the zoom is very good, some say that there is no need to get a prime if you have this lens. I just enjoy the process of using a prime lens, so I chose not to go this route.

If by wide-ish, you meant including some of the normal range ... the DA 16-45 might be a good choice. I just got one yesterday, so I can't really comment on the quality yet.

DA 15, yummy!

Sigma 10-20mm is good and has served me well. Before that I just used the kit DA18-55 for plenty of landscapes

Tamron 10-24mm has plenty of happy customers

DA 12-24 also has happy customers

If you look at collections of 'scapes you'll see that most were shot in a range equivalent to 18-55mm on APS-C. The Tamron 17-50/2.8 is highly regarded and covers that range. The DA*16-50/2.8 is also well-loved but rather more expensive. Ultrawides aren't really good for most 'scapes -- they shrink the distant, turning mountains into molehills. For undistorted scapes I (and many others) shoot with a 'normal' lens (28-31mm) and stitch frames together. I use and love the Tamron 10-24 but only shoot 'scapes (slightly distorted) in the 18-24mm range, unless I *want* the distance de-emphasized.

The nice thing about landscape photography is you don't need fast glass. So you don't really need one of the expensive f2.8 zooms. I've used both the DA 12-24 and the DA 16-45 for landscape photography. They are both very good. I wouldn't say that one is particularly better than the other, but I do prefer the 16-45 for it's more versatile range.

For primes, there are many great choices in Pentax glass. The DA 15 and DA 21 are both great landscape lenses. But you can also get away with using older manual focus lenses in landscape. I use the M 20/4, the K 28/3.5, and the K 28/3.5 and have gotten excellent results from them. I've also seen particularly impressive results from the M 28/3.5, the K 30/2.8, the K or A 24/2.8, and the F 28/2.8.

my most used landscape lenses are:

DA15
FA31
M50/1.7

I also get some time with the Tamron 70-200/2.8 and FA77 for tele landscapes.
