Pentax 24-75mm

You know, Tamron has a new 24-70mm lens coming out, which will NOT be offered in Pentax K-mount.

Tamron has, in the past, supplied Pentax with its 18-250mm superzoom for Pentax to rebrand.

The new Pentax roadmap has a "High Magnification Zoom Lens" in it.

Hmmm.

I think we have different definitions of speculation. Not to be too-engineer-y, but the OP wasn't speculation, rather, the OP is analysis of an official pentax press release. It's similar to how someone might zoom in on an official pentax photo of the K-01 to see if it includes an EVF, for example. Everyone is free to speculate after the OP, of course, and that's what I assumed would follow, but that's true of every press release.

I owned the FA*28-70 and the rotating front element never bothered me. I don't use filters so I really didn't find it an issue...

I somehow don't see 16-85 as constant f stop lens, unless it would be f4. Even then it has potential to be large. Canon has variable f stop L lenses, so maybe Pentax would put out variable f stop DA*.
On the other side 16-85/4 as a 17-70 replacement would be nice too.. especially if DA* would be fully WR..

It is listed as a DA* lens. Aren't all DA* lenses sealed even more tightly than WR? I thought DA* meant higher quality and weather-proof.

24-70 is my bread and butter zoom lens on my K5 (I use the enormous Sigma f2.8). As mentioned above, great for all people shots.

Of course, a great lens for FF too. Pentax having something in this range would make me much less jealous of the 24-105 f4L or 24-70 F2.8 Canon lenses. I bet it would be smaller, too.

my bad, I used wrong wording. DA*s are tightly sealed. What I meant was that it would be nice to have sealed lens (in quality of DA* sealing) in that range...

A 18-85 would probably be f4, or be huge and hugely expensive. Time will tell!

the 17-70 and the 18-135 both have good ranges, but they have their own issues, and both aren't fast, either. If the compromise has to be made in the FL, a 24-70 or 75 is an excellent range for a walkaround or small events. 16-85 would be excellent, but I just wonder how big that lens will be if it's 2.8, and weathersealed.

I would sell both DA*16-50 and DA18-135 for a DA*16-85/4. My copy of the first is basically useless at f/2,8, and I gladly would exchange the zoom lenght of the second for something shorter but of higher quality. The 17-70 for me was perfect, but I need it in wheater resistant build.

Imo the fading (orange and green) is smokescreen so that their complete roadmap isn't public giving away stuff like a possible FF camera. I highly doubt there is a * quality f2.8 16-85 zoom in the works. I expect something like 24-75mm f2.8 like the OP mentions and comparable to the Tamron/Sigma options.

I certainly don't think it's a 16-85 f/2.8 lens, that would be humungous, but f/4 is feasible, or 2.8-4?
