Here's a flowchart to help you solve that problem.

It had to be said!

I know I might get what I want if I eliminated one of the 3 things I want....

Of course I already have a cheap superzoom (Sigma 28-300) that isn't really all that sharp. I an curious as to what the other K mount lens they have planned is though.

very interested in the 560! hoping it will cost only around USD$2k *fingers crossed*
It will be interesting to see what this does to the value of the Pentax-A* 600/f.5.6 on the second hand market.

the press release hints of alternative technology which could mean a mirror lens about the size of a coffee cup.

Well I was hoping for a 560mm f4 of 4.5, but this will do for now. I hope that Ricoh will support Pentax in filling out both ends of the focal length spectrum as well as the holes in between. I have to wonder... Why 560mm?? Why not an autofocus version of the A* 600 f5.6? Odd that they're using 560mm unless it's an update of the 400 f4 with a permanently attached 1.4 TC? That does work out to 560mm f 5.6. The only thing is the only 400mm f4 lenses I know of is the 67 M*, and a Super Tak. Interesting...

EDIT:

Here's a Luminous Landscape review of the M 67 400mm F4 as well as the entry for it in the review forum. Looks interesting. It already has automatic aperture, all that would be needed would be an autofocusing mechanism and optics that act like a 1.4 TC. Not sure how much this would add to the cost. It was $6000 back in 2002 brand new according to the luminous landscape article...

I have to salute Pentax designer after seeing this lens (and understand why they say K-01 lens can't use on other camera, except the 40mm that is already shown to work with K5). They use the space vacate with the mirror removed to 'protrude' the lens inside the K-mount, brilliant.

In fact, exciting time. Go Pentax!
Just wish the DA50mm look nicer (the old FA50 lens looks good), and can't wait to see some sample photos from those screaming for year a long lens from Pentax! your wish is fulfilled - now go buy it.

I'm wondering if the 560mm could be related to the Pentax 75 SDHF telescope?

Any rumors about focal lenght and aperture speed? This lens is not in roadmap.

it seems to me it's retro focal lens ~ 12 mm.

The Pentax 75 SDHF telescope is three lens design. Actually two lenses and a flatter. And the image spot is 4x6cm. What do you think is adopted in 560/5.6; a flatter?

Very interesting lens for the new K-01. Best of both worlds IMO, with the ability to use older K mount lenses and new compact lenses created for it.
