Sigma 100-300/4 gives you prime quality with zoom. Can be hard to find though....

Sigma must have improved some. I had some of their zooms, mirror lenses, fisheyes and WA primes back in the early 80's. Was not impressd with them. Great build, but IQ was poor.

Sigma has quite a few lenses that equal (and in some cases better) their Pentax/Canon/Nikon counterparts. The 70/2.8 macro, 150/2.8 macro and 100-300/4 are three lenses that I've personally used that all have top-tier IQ. There are probably at least a dozen other Sigma lenses that I can think of off-hand that people speak very highly of. I would certainly stay away from their older low-end consumer zooms (<$300), but there are certainly Sigma lenses that are worth considering.

Was looking for the Sigma APO 100-300 zoom...yep very hard to find.

How is the Sigma APO 120-400 F4 EX DG as a replacement for the Sigma APO 100-300?

edit...looked up some reviews. APO 120-400 does not shine like the APO 100-300. Why the hell did Sigma stop making APO 100-300?
