What kind of new fixed-focal lenses we really need?
Have a look at the present line of lenses (with new types). I think it’s close to ideal.
DA 14/2.8 – 21 mm (on APS-C)
DA 21/3.2 pancake limited – 32 mm
FA 31/1.8 limited - 47 mm
FA 35/2 - 53 mm
DA 35/2.8 macro limited - 53 mm
DA 35/1.4 (?) SDM - 53 mm
DA 40/2.8 pancake limited – 60 mm
FA 43/1.9 limited - 64 mm
FA 50/1.4 - 75 mm
DFA 50/2.8 macro - 75 mm
DA* 55/1.4 SDM - 84 mm
DA 70/2.4 pancake limited – 105 mm
FA 77/1.8 limited - 115 mm
DFA 100/2.8 macro - 150 mm
DA* 200/2.8 SDM - 300 mm
DA* 300/4 SDM - 450 mm
BUT…
I think that we really need 5-6 new «fixed» lenses
DA8 or DA10/~3.5-4.5 – 12 or 15 mm
DA26 or DA28/~2-2.8 – 40 or 42 mm
DA120 or DA135/~1.8-2.5 (I’d like a bit faster than f/2.8) – 180 or 200 mm
DA135/4 macro – 200 mm (I still remember FA*200/4 macro )
DA400/4 or 5.6 – 600 mm
DA600/4 or 5.6 – 900 mm
If Pentax could offer something like this in 2008-2010, it would be great.
I’d like to see also DA18.5/~2.8-3.5 - 28 mm (APS-C), but I think that DA21 is too close and Pentax won’t make such lens. But, Pentax had 14 (!!!!!) various versions of K lenses with 28 mm focal length before – from 1975 till 2004. Where is 28 mm lens on APS-C????
Very popular focal length.
40-42 mm is ideal for street photo and as universal lens for various types of shots.
The range 16.5-24 mm could be covered by DA*11-16/2.8 (I hope to see this zoom) and no need new fixed lens.
I would be happy if Mr. Ben Kanarek can collect our requests and show it to Pentax France. Anyway, the high management of Pentax France can send such information to Japan. Maybe they will hear our voices…
