What kind of new fixed-focal lenses we really need?

What kind of new fixed-focal lenses we really need?
Have a look at the present line of lenses (with new types). I think it’s close to ideal.

DA 14/2.8 – 21 mm (on APS-C)
DA 21/3.2 pancake limited – 32 mm
FA 31/1.8 limited - 47 mm
FA 35/2 - 53 mm
DA 35/2.8 macro limited - 53 mm
DA 35/1.4 (?) SDM - 53 mm
DA 40/2.8 pancake limited – 60 mm
FA 43/1.9 limited - 64 mm
FA 50/1.4 - 75 mm
DFA 50/2.8 macro - 75 mm
DA* 55/1.4 SDM - 84 mm
DA 70/2.4 pancake limited – 105 mm
FA 77/1.8 limited - 115 mm
DFA 100/2.8 macro - 150 mm
DA* 200/2.8 SDM - 300 mm
DA* 300/4 SDM - 450 mm

BUT…
I think that we really need 5-6 new «fixed» lenses

DA8 or DA10/~3.5-4.5 – 12 or 15 mm
DA26 or DA28/~2-2.8 – 40 or 42 mm

DA120 or DA135/~1.8-2.5 (I’d like a bit faster than f/2.8) – 180 or 200 mm
DA135/4 macro – 200 mm (I still remember FA*200/4 macro )
DA400/4 or 5.6 – 600 mm
DA600/4 or 5.6 – 900 mm

If Pentax could offer something like this in 2008-2010, it would be great.

I’d like to see also DA18.5/~2.8-3.5 - 28 mm (APS-C), but I think that DA21 is too close and Pentax won’t make such lens. But, Pentax had 14 (!!!!!) various versions of K lenses with 28 mm focal length before – from 1975 till 2004. Where is 28 mm lens on APS-C????
Very popular focal length.
40-42 mm is ideal for street photo and as universal lens for various types of shots.

The range 16.5-24 mm could be covered by DA*11-16/2.8 (I hope to see this zoom) and no need new fixed lens.

I would be happy if Mr. Ben Kanarek can collect our requests and show it to Pentax France. Anyway, the high management of Pentax France can send such information to Japan. Maybe they will hear our voices…

A highly corrected prime in the 10 to 12 mm range that's weather-proof.. Whatever the cost, I'd buy it.

I personally would like to see a DA* 20 f1.8 SDM. Doesn't have to be a limited as long as it has top glass and quality. While my real preference would be to see a lens similar to the FA Limiteds with these specs of 20mm and f1.8, I would be happy with a DA* also.

The intent being to get a faster 30-35 effective focal length. While the 21 pancake may be a great lens, it's too slow for my liking. I love the canon 35 f1.4 on a full frame, and would like something similar in pentax.

I agree on the 28mm.
I would buy a DA 28mm f2.0 immediately.

I also agree on the "DA120 or DA135/~1.8-2.5".
If possible with STF (Smooth Trans Focus) like Sony or DC (Defocus Control) like Nikon.
That would be cool!

Noticeably absent from the list of primes is the D(F)A* 300 2.8 and some others...

Is 28mm really that different then the 31?

No. And that's why there is a DA 21... It replaces the 28 nicely, in fact, it's much better.

FA31/1.8 limited is 47 mm and not cheap...it's limited lense.
DA28 is 42 mm.
F2 is too fast, but it would be COOL.

I think we never see DA*20, because there is DA21 limited.
And DA*20/1.8 SDM could be too expensive lens. And not very popular.
Too fast, weather-sealed and with SDM wide-angle fixed lens. It's very expensive.

In fact, 28 mm is empty. It's strange.
And 200 mm is empty too. It's important focal lenght IMO.

As for ultra-wide lens and for long tele - I think Pentax will make DA400 in the nearest future .
I'm sure. DA8 or DA10 - maybe someday. It's not very important. And it's not problem.

The main question - where is DA18 and DA135?

What we need

As a company to be taken serisously (I am talking pro and smi-pro lenses only, not consumer "super lenses" like the 18-250, 17-70 etc) pentax needs a few lenses (and a smi-pro d300ish body)

NOTE (Dates are only for when I think they should at least announce by, I do not have inside info on lenses or dates, and all that is listed are only a personal guess/wish)

Lenses needed:
Zooms:
70/80-200/250 F2.8 (probably not coming but would like to see) 2009
60-250 F4 (on the way) spring 2008
200/250-400/500 F4 (Nice tell-zoom moderatly fast smi-affordable) Fall 08/Spring 09

primes:
50 F1.4 (updated with SDM, is rumored too) Fall 08
85 F1.4 (updated with SDM) Fall 08
135 F1.8 2009
200mm F1.8/2 (Personal wish) 2009/10
200 F2.8 (on the way) Summer 08
300 F2.8 (Update and make widley available) Spring 09
300 F4 (on the way) Spring 08
400 F4/5.6 (rumored that on the way) Fall 08/spring 09
400 F2.8 (AF Version with SDM etc) 2009/10
500 F4 (a good tell, smi-fast and about 1/2- 2/3 the cost of a 600 F4, perfect for those of us who need a fast tell but not the entire reach/weight/price of the 600) 2009/10
600 F4 (Updated and made widley available) Spring 2009

Other:
New Flash system (improve it really, could just be a firmware upgrade) 2009
Dedicated Wirless flash transmiter (like nikons and canons) so we can HSS etc. and controle the flashes better, its also cheeper than a 540/360 flash to be used as a comander unit only (Fall 08)
Teliconverters!!!!! 1.4x and 2x with AF capabality, both screw-driven and SDM (NOW/Spring 08)
Flash Cord (we need a better system, the parts easly break and cost a tone of $$) (Fall 08)

For the announce/store talley (lenses)
2008 up to 6 (some already on the road map by pentax)
2009 up to 9
2010 up to 3
I think that is reasonable. esp. when you factor the updated consumer-grade lenses like the 17-70 and the 70-300ish that are on the road map. Combine that with a few more special lenses (limiteds) and its not asking too too much.
(Remember I did not say all should be produced the times listed, i think they should at least announce them though by than)

NOTE (Dates are only for when I think they should at least announce by, I do not have inside info on lenses or dates, and all that is listed are only a personal guess/wish)

The difference between a 28 and the 31 could be $500(US). Pentax could sell many more 28's at $300 than 31's at $800.

As everything will go some day... I really thing that the current prime setup is superb and complete... Let's focus on the things that are missing, a nice versatile zooms (like 17-70 on the roadmap), and long and afordable primes... Well with the arriving of the DA* 200 mm f2.8, DA*300 F4 and specially DA*60-250 pentax lens system is fully covered as far as I am conserned (with the adition of a DA 200 mm macro eventually) Lenses like 300 mm f2.8, 400 f2.8 (even F4) and 500&600 F4 are just to heavy and way out of my budget&interests...

And what about 27mm, 29mm, or 30mm, come on, dont you think you are asking a little bit 2 much... I mean, the 21 is perfect for street photography... fairly priced, light, with very good image quality...
