Lens for the K200D?

I'm buying my girlfriend a K200D as a gift and am looking for a decent lens to get her to go with it. I already have an 18-56 for my kit. I'm debating between buying the DA 35/2.4 and giving her the 18-55 or maybe finding a decent zoom lens for her. Any suggestions for a solid zoom lens that won't break the bank? Anything under $100-$150 would be great. Best bang for your buck is preferred!

Any comments on the tamron 28-300 aspherical macro as a possible choice?

I have a Tamron 70-300mm zoom which is just sensational better by far that my Pentax 50-200mm

I'm trying to find one that had a little bit wider angle than that still. She's not interested in landscapes too much but if I can find something 28-35 and up would be nice. At least then she can take group pictures easier and then have a good reach.

In that price range it's hard to find anything other than the 35mm that's AF, really- so unless you're willing to turn to manual lenses, then I'd say that's your best bet.

If you really want to make her happy I'd pick up a 17-50mm tamron, but that one's $400

Might be worth picking up a kit 18-55 WR, since the K200D was weather sealed.

Thas what I was also considering Adam and Elliot. Depends on if I can afford the tamron or not by then. I might get the 35/2.4 for me and then sell my DA-L 18-55 and replace it with the WR version.

Could you post some pictures - same scene, same exposure, etc - that demonstrate this? My experience is that the images are almost indistinguishable except for the much greater purple fringinging from the Tamron.

I say go for the 35mm. You can swap back and forth. A 'normal' focal length prime is a good lens to have. It is also a good lens to use to learn the camera. Take the 'zoom' out of the learning problem. The faster aperture makes for a brighter viewfinder. I like my Pentax 35mm.
