A Request for Pentax: DA 135-400 WR

Pentax's first lens roadmap under Ricoh ownership is great news. Like almost everybody else, I've noticed they have a DA lens in the pipeline for 2013 that looks like something just over 100mm to just under 400mm.

On the chance that people from Pentax might actually see this post, I would like to formally press the company for a 135-400mm WR zoom. An aperture range of f/3.5-5.6 is just fine. I envision this lens as being paired with the 18-135mm WR zoom with DC autofocus motor. But even if they plan to take this lens up a notch, 135-400 would also complement the DA* 16-50 and 50-135. If such a lens would be too big or too expensive, then how about starting at a longer focal length and still going out to 400mm?

Like many other Pentaxians, I already have the very good DA 55-300 zoom, so a lens that goes out to only 350mm isn't going to buy us a whole lot. Plus, as I get older, big and heavy tele-zooms are a bit much for carrying into the wild while on nature shoots.

Am I alone on this or am I being unrealistic? I've stuck with all-Pentax glass up to now and I would prefer to not to end up with Sigma's 120-400. Since it appears Pentax has been listening to the faithful lately, I thought it couldn't hurt to start a separate thread on this here.

This is on the roadmap, right? Let's just hope it's WR!

What's on the roadmap looks close to what I'm talking about. But the color trail fades out a bit before 400mm... looking like 350-375. I'm hoping they take it all the way to 400 and give it WR. I've got my fingers crossed and I have to believe a lot of other Pentaxians do as well.

The focal lengths in most telephoto zooms are only approximations. Sigma 50-500 is only about 450 in reality and DA*60-250 reaches approximately 230mm for any practical purpose. And so on. So if th lens is marketed as 380mm being really 380mm it may still have longre reach than Sigma 120-400 or Canon 100-400.
