When I look at what I use frequently, I would have to say the K135/2.5, and the tak 200/3.5 preset stand out against all others.

Not far behind are my K300/4 especially when coupled with the 1.7x AF TC

In modern lenses I would have to say the Sigma APO 70-200F2.8 EX (non DG non macro)

Good list Peter.
For me it's also about utility and wow factor in the results, and as such my own list is:

FA 43 Ltd
FA 77 Ltd
FA 31 Ltd
FA 100/2.8 macro
DA 12-24
Tamron 70-200
DA 10-17 Fish Eye

then again, I don't have any K, M or A lenses to go by...

Legendary? Legends in my mind are lenses that are amazing, rare, and amazing.

FA*300 F2.8
FA*600 F4
A 50mm F1.2
Zeiss 35mm F2 T*

And for special mention, despite it not being rare, the sharpest lens I know of in Pentax's stable (and I want one)
FA 50mm F2.8 Macro

Yes, that is it. Lenses that stand head and shoulders above their peers. They don't have to be perfect...just near perfect.

I would have to say my legends are the M series 50mm f1.4, f1.7 and my M series 28mm f3.5.These three lenses are to me are sharp as a tack and are built the way all pentax lenses should be built.'NO PLASTIC'!!!

Lots of really good lenses, but what to call legendary...

4/200 macro (all versions)
Zeiss 21/2.8 - legendary, but could be even better if designed for APS-C
Zeiss 100/2 macro
Voigtländer 125 macro

5.6/600 stands out to other tele designs as being a special lens

many legends about the 1.4/85 and the 1.2/50

Most people here named full frame lenses only - let's think about that. There are the modern legends?

My top 10

Here are the top ten lenses I've ever used, in no particular order...

Pentax 50mm f1.4 A
Pentax 135mm f1.8
Leica 35mm Summicron f2 ASPH
Leica 50mm Summicron
Kern Switar 25mm
Zeiss 150mm Sonnar
Leica 90mm f2.8 Elmarit
Schneider 80mm Xenotar
Schneider 150mm f5.6 APO-Symmar
Leica 75mm f1.4, second series

They're spread across a bunch of formats ranging from 16mm to 4x5. I've always loved nice lenses, and the cameras I have owned have always been an excuse to use the lenses that I like. My M6 system was my most consistent one as far as quality results go. I considered the 75mm Summilux as a special effects lens really. There's nothing else quite like it wide open. My main lens on my LX was the 50mm f1.4 A series. What an amazing lens. I've had others that were sharper, but that lens has about the most pleasing rendition of colors and background blur that I can think of.

Is this LBA post?
IMO, DA should not be included as a legendary.

I'm an old film guy, but I'm shooting only digital these days. All these film lenses pass muster on my K5:

Vivitar Series 1 90mm f2.5 macro, the "V-Bokina", definitely no-compromise "legendary"
Pentax-M 135mm f3.5
Pentax-A 50mm f1.4
Pentax-A 35mm f2
Pentax-A* 300mm f4

Lenses worthy of "Legendary" status that I do own:
FA31 (no question)
FA77 (maybe, tempremental though)

Legendary lens I don't own but wish I did:

Other lenses I own that are aspiring to legendary status in my eyes at least:

Hi Dirk, impressive setup.....If I remember well you also had K20/4 once, haven't you? How does it compare to Contax Zeiss 21/2.8? To me it is pretty good glass, but I have seen some tests of Zeiss 21 and my jaw dropped, though never heard anybody comparing Pentax 20/4 directly to Contax 21. That would be interesting or maybe no-contest.

to my previous post I would add: Olympus OM Zuiko 50/2 Macro

Only need three,

Tokina AT-X 90mm f/2.5 Macro (Bokina)
Pentax SMC-FA 31mm f/1.8 Limited
Voigtländer (Cosina) Nokton SLII 58mm f/1.4

These lenses make magic happen. I very rarely take them out of my camera bag (except for shooting of course). They also cover nearly every form of shooting I do.

If only I had a full-frame camera to use them on. Of course, then I would probably swap the Voigtländer for a 43mm Limited.
