#7 Street scene before firework with FA 50 f/1.4

I liked all your shots, Hin, but the one above is my favorite.

It's a nice candid, and very pleasing to the eyes.

You have steady hands! I would never try these without my tripod!

I have changed my current top choice

Ash, I would go for sigma 17-70 as it is really a faultless zoom: great focal range, not as expensive, good build, no CA or flare, vibrant colour etc.
I am a great fan of Roentarre and I have changed my top choice of kit's replacement from Tamron 28-75 to Sigma 17-70. The only reason that holds me back is the f/2.8 not fixed through out the focal range. I love night shooting in the range of 17 to 35. Can anyone clue me in on the actual focal range of f/2.8 that goes from 17mm to ??mm. If it goes to at least 24mm, that would be ideal for me as I do find myself to have great liking of f/2.8 in 24mm. I have posted test pictures with my recent purchase of Vivitar 24mm f/2.8 which I liked a lot though a manual focus lens.

Thanks,
Hin

Mike, thank you so much for your kind comment. In all those 8 photos that I posted, 7 are from my manual Vivitar 24mm f/2.8 and one is from my beloved FA 50mm f/1.8. And I love that shot the most and hence I include it in the posting. It is very sharp at f/2.0 in that shot, I should have tried f/1.8 or lower to see the difference. And I find guilty feeling in not changing lens at that spot to have the same shot with 24mm f/2.8 for comparison with a wider angle. I have great liking of 28mm and 24mm in street shooting at night as compared to 50mm. I have not tried 35mm yet, and I am yet to experiment with SuperTak 35mm f/3.5 but I see f/2.8 as my preferred apertures in iso 800 with my K100D without the use of tripod.

Thanks,
Hin

Much much thanks for the needed information. I think I would try to shoot f/3.2 at night in iso 800 and iso 1600 hand-held and see I can handle it. Right now, I am sold on Sigma 17-70.

Thank you so much,
Hin
