Plus the weight is very high - 36 pounds... more than twice the weight of the 600/4...

I was aware of the lens being made to order for NASA, etc. but I thought the price was less... just at $80K...

You know what's even more shocking is that B&H even has one in stock. Must be on consignment. I can't imagine who would order one of these other than NASA

SI, US Govt, Canon Professional Services, the founder of Oakley. According the wikipedia, BH is going to use this as a conversation piece in the store.

Its got to be. I wonder if someone can go into B+H and perhaps show some interest, maybe take it for a test run or two. I couldn't imagine the size of the tripod or threee that would be needed to support that. It would probably come with like a pickup truck mount or something considering the weight.

100k for a camera lense. I could only imagine the reaction of the security people if you strolled into a baseball or football came with that thing.

Or perhaps the conversation with the wifey, well honey I decided we should move back in with my parents. Wife: why would we ever do that?, Husband (with severe Cronic LBA): "I decided to sell the house so I could buy the BIGGEST Camera Lense ever!"

What's that lead going from the camera to the lens? I kinda doubt it's a safety wire!

A bargain at any price!

Clearly this behemoth lens has been only "gently" used which makes it a real deal. I wonder if you get free shipping for your $99,000?

For that kind of money I would buy myself a very nice car to drive over to where I could take the photo with a shorter lens.

"Additional Comments:

WITH TRUNK CASE"

Does this mean you have to convert you trunk into a case to haul the damn thing, lol.

EDIT:

It looks big on a camera! "Only" 16.5kg...

I'm thinking you might retrofit a .50 caliber machine gun mount. maybe beef up the suspension in your hummer to carry the massive weight!

Pretty crazy stuff.

Moving the sucker around...

From B&H's description:
"Pack mule not included. And remember- lift with your knees, not your back."

If you were to pick up your own pack mule, it could do double duty in your yard as a lawn mower.

Actually, I was thinking that one of those Radio Flyer wagons might be about right for hauling it around. If someone could rig up a crane that would be attached to the wagon, the crane could lift the lens high enough off the ground that you could come up under it with the tripod and simply attach it to the lens without having to pick it up at all, which would save your back.
