I know this is pretty much all I post, but -- c'mon! US$ 92. For a BROKEN 50/1.7!

Pentax 50mm AF F series f/1.7 – parts - eBay (item 280187311870 end time Jan-03-08 12:43:36 PST)

Sheesh. I think my LBA has finally ended, out of shock (no, it wasn't me that bought it).

By the description it looks like if they played soccer with it (an expensive ball though)

Probably non-english speaking buyers who have no idea what the condition of the lens is.

Last fall, I saw good ones (not broken) go for less than $100 on eBay a few times. I thought that the lens grab was over, but apparently not.

the last ones I saw were going close to 200 USD before the end of the auction. which it is 20-30% more expensive that a couple of months ago, on the other side, the FA 50 1.4 is going cheaper now than a couple of months ago.

The last F50 1.7 I listed back in October went for $227.50. I found that quite amazing.

That might be it. I've been looking for about a month for an A 28/2.8 or an M 28/3.5. I have a deal from a seller on here, but I want the A more than the M. However, the A is going for like $135-150, which is out of my range.

It will be interesting if oakleylove shows up here indignant about having been ripped off on eBay.

The seller must be laughing his ass off, and I don't blame him a bit. He was certainly frank enough in his description of the lens; nobody can cry "foul".

The emptors need to learn to caveat a little better.

This is true the P used lens market is quite warm right now. Wait till January 24th when a bunch of C and N loyalists jump ship.

It is amazing how many naive buyers ask questions, here is an excerpt from one of the many questions I receive. I answer them as honestly as I can and most times direct them to the right lens.

Here is one on a F35-70 Macro lens that made me giggle, I left the grammar in tact.

"is this that lens thats used to take REALLY upclose pictures? like for great detail in upclose objects such as a flower? if not, can u tell me what type of lens is used for that?"

I gave her suggestions on much better lenses for Macro photographs and a quick lesson of the term"Macro".

But what I find really amazing is the bidders that go into a bidding war or bid very high on lenses they do not need without asking any questions until after they buy them.

One of my favorites that made really laugh out loud was the guy who bought a 50mm 1.7 A off of a Best Offer on Craig's list .

He e-mailed back really upset, unedited "HEYyour lens you sold me sucksYu cheeeted me, I tryd tozoom in on a dear in a feild faraway and it cant do it"

I gave him his money back.

Then we have the buyers who have not a clue they just want it now, let alone the same person from China who mails me on each lens I list "Will you ship to China?" Obviously he can not read English. But it is fun answering him on each listing.

Just so I make this perfectly clear I am not a member of this forum to promote my eBay lenses up on auction and never will, I am here because of my love of photography and 30 years of exclusively using Pentax equipment.

Just thought this would be interesting to share.

Wendy

I've been pining for the fjords... no, sorry, pining for a F 50 1.4, and over the last year have only seen ONE on eBay (and it was early on, so I wasn't entirely sure if I was into primes or not). Kicking myself now.

Ah well. Live 'n' learn.
