Originally posted by abacus07 There is something special about the original lens hoods even if they don't match up to the original lens.
That varies from lens to lens.
The M100/2.8 I bought new back in the Bronze Age
came with a plastic hood held by little metal clips.
Very fiddly and flimsy.
Pretty soon, one of the metal clips fell off.
Originally posted by abacus07 I just do not like the look of the rubber lens hoods even if they do function relatively well.
There's a broad spectrum from collector to photographer,
so form versus function will be judged differently
depending on where you place yourself.
For me, "Handsome is as handsome does."
The rubber hoods can stay on the lens,
fold away for storage,
and flip out quickly when you need them.
You can bend them a bit by hand
to mask oblique incoming flare rays.
And they're great for photographing through glass
(like an aquarium or a window),
since you can make the hood give a tight fit all round
up against the glass, regardless of the angle.
