OK , can anyone beat this guy for LBA?

I mentioned to a friend that I was shooing with Pentax and he sent me this note...

QuoteQuote:
My Step Father is one of you "Old Guys" who grew up with Pentax. He has turned it into something of a hobby. Today he has 130 different Pentax bodies. He has at least one of every body ever made except for one. The Black Orginal Model (Sorry, no model number as there wasn't one). He also has 400 K-Mount lenses. Lots of old Takumar glass. He does not have the Pentax FA31. But, he does have a Sigma 30mm F/1.4. He also has a SMC Pentax-A 50mm F/1.2 which, I think, is the fastest 50mm ever made.

If you ever find your self looking for something specific that is Pentax related drop me a line. My Step father has almost everything and buys, sell and trades as part of his hobby.
Do we know this guy? If not, I should probably invite him to check us out.

A poll awhile back at the ManualFocusLenses forum asked about lens possession. The AVERAGE count was 100 per member. One claimed to have over 1500 lenses. They might have more now. As for many cameras: I think it's the guy with the Toy Camera site who said he has something like 1500 cameras. That was also a couple years ago. Why stop there?

The K and A- 50/1.2's were the fastest PENTAX lenses. Canon (and Voigtlander?) made 50/0.95s. NASA (or probably Perkins-Elmer) made a 50/0.7 that Stan Kubrick famously used to shoot BARRY LYNDON.

400 K mount lenses means he much have more than one of some of them

I'm halfway there, I think...though considering pruning off the old glass as it never sees use!

I was trying to figure out how long it would take to give each lens a 20 minute workout, then a bit of time in PP to evaluate the images.. working 8 hours a day, probably about 2 months.

Just deciding what lenses to take with you on a hike would be half a day's work.

Heck at a modest $65 per lens at 400 lenses that is $26,000.

Not to mention 130 bodies , if they average $100 per body (just to make the math easy) that's $13,000.And he also has a lot of Takumars..

I would bet he's on here even if it's to just lurk the marketplace watching for elusive missing models
130 bodies is just insane (the lens addiction i understand though , but really a couple of dozen bodies should cover your bets pretty well

Wonder if he has a gold LX ?

I'm guessing he either bought them over many years so the cost didn't seem high, or he does a bit of bargain hunting on lenses, or even both. Of course he could just be a rich collector and the money is insignificant. Just ask RioRico how much he paid on average for his 200+ lenses.

I have a sears 28mm 2.8 macro on the way that cost 6$ shipped (3 lenses for 17$ shipped with combined shipping). I knew it was cheap but was a bit shocked looking right now. # completed listings. 2 sold, one for 65$ shipped and the other for 42.75$. Second lens was a chinon 135mm 2.8. Only k mount one like the one I got that sold was 37.90 GBP (US 60$?). One in m42 mount (not sure if it is a comparable lens) sold for 46$ (only one sold). Third was an albinar 2x teleconverter (off brand 2x teleconverters are not worth more than about 10$ as far as I am concerned but) they have sold for 15-26$. One sold for 9$ but no mount listed, said it was p42? Probably m42?

I really need to start flipping lenses like some others here do.

My dozen autofocus lenses cost an average of US$303 each. My 220 manual focus lenses cost an average of US$16 each. That AF screw sure is expensive, eh? Oh yeah, I've sold another 120 lenses to help pay for my keepers; I deal lenses on eBay to support my LBA. Buying these lenses retail would have required me robbing many many minimarts, or doing a lot of identity theft, or going into politics or televangelism. Much better to look for eBay deals, like my SuperTak 55/1.8 for US$8 shipped. If I want a full set of Limiteds I'll have to start a church or a SuperPAC.
