A few hundred on old fast glass primes and maybe a trip to say Patagonia or similar for landscape, na delusions of grandeur, Me thinks we shall only wish.

$650 - DA12-24
$600 - Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8
$650 - FA*24
$850 - FA31
$650 - FA43
$650 - DA*55
$750 - DA*50-135
$750 - FA77
$450 - DFA100mm Macro WR
$1.2k - Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 OS
$3k - Sigma 300mm f/2.8

Tad overkill really, I'd probably be just fine if it was just my DA*55

Is the 55* quite good?

I think Kcmadr is right on - I would sacrifice a large chunk of that list to get the 250-600mm.

Patagonia sounds like the right answer though.

The A 250-600, there's $7,000 gone already... and the a 1200, oops, that's over 10 grand just by itself... darn... I spent almost 20k. Oh well, what can you do, no matter how much they give you it's never enough.

2 each any NIB SMCP (K) lens I come across until I run out of money,.
Repeat next year.
Until I own a user and a museum copy of every K lens. That has been my Lottery fantasy since 1977. Really.

Real answer -
  • $990 - FA31
  • $750 - FA43
  • $785 - FA77
  • $1400 - FA*28~70/2,8
  • $2000 - FA*80~200/2.8
  • $3000 - FA*200 Macro
  • $1000 - MZ-s/Grip
No wait for FF

Ask SteveM (smc) about his A1200/8. He made a "why not?" offer on an eBay BIN/OBO and the seller accepted. You'll be . . . . Jealous.

I'd get the 645D, sorry, no lenses this time :-) I've already got the 6x7 55mm f4.0 and 75mm shift so I'd get started easily enough. A bunch of other 6x7 lenses as well, but those are going to be sold off.

Easy. I'd buy the 55-300, the one lens I feel that my kit is lacking, then put the rest in my pocket and head off to Europe for a month to use that and the lenses I already have. Seriously. I have a plethora of lenses otherwise. I don't really need any more than that and going to Europe would give me plenty of new things to photograph, smile.

I saw one go at government auction for over $10,000, he should sell it and buy something he can actually carry. You need a small jeep just to move that thing. The one I saw was owned by the RCMP, so no doubt was used in surveillance. You have to wonder if another surveillance organization bought it.

Good question.
I'd probably spend most of it not on lenses, but..
DA* 60-250/4.0
FA Limited 31/1.8
Sigma 24-70/2.8 HSM
Maybe FA77, DFA100, FA50/1.7 and/or DA* 200.

OK, everyone says the Sigma 70-200 2.8, but when I did my research, I thought the Tamron 70-200 2.8 looked better... what do you guys know that I don't?

Actually, if I had to make that choice again, I'd probably go with the Tamron.

I'd track down either a copy of the F/FA* 250-600 or F/FA* 600 and use whatever money is left over on gas.
