In the past week I have been checking different online sources. B&H and Adorama still show out of stock. However, over the weekend, Adorama showed a used one for $639 I think - I hesitated and then it was gone the next day.

Amazon still shows one from a 3rd party vendor for list price, but Amazon Warehouse Deals had one for $768 over the weekend - that one is also gone now. Also, Amazon marketplace shows a used one for $810 from an unknown vendor.

But, I am happy to say, that I was lucky enough to grab one that came up on the Marketplace on Sunday - should be here by the weekend.

Why is it that when a lens is mostly unavailable, it makes you want it even more......that's real LBA in the works I think.
I stare on the 639 one for a long time, then I start finding a ship address. But, it has gone when I came back.
OMG. Anyway I need one, then I ask for a 768 one on Amazon. So that's the story.

I'm a happy camper now that I have mine.

But it figures - B&H is showing the lens in stock now for $700.

I bought one April, 2010. It's a fabulous lens....it's almost permanently attached to my K-5....as it was previously to my K10D.

The 12-24 has great ratings but is pricey.

I wanted this lens for my vacation that I am currently on. B&H got them in two weeks too late. After reading all the great reviews for this lens it is on my must buy list. So I will see how much money I have left over from vacation and if enough will get it.

Canadian pricing on this particular lens is out to lunch so it's usually in stock (list is 1299 and cheapest store is 969)

this is one new stock item i would shop cross border on a 270-500 saving depending on which dealer i look at locally by ordering from BH

hopefully if it is being replaced with a wr Canadian prices will come into line on the next version (generally there is little price difference now days)

You're correct....the Canadian price on this lens out of whack, IMO.

I have difficulty understanding why there is such a significant difference between the Cdn. and the US price.

I'm drooling over this lens, but it is too steep right now....BUT it would be the ideal lens for 60% of my shots. The 24-35 focal lengths are so perfect for landscape. Guess I need to start selling some more prints.....if I could only find a used copy for like $500.....

I think it may have come in when there was a big discrepancy in the dollar, and if they haven't imported more or reassessed it it will sit. the dealers won't move it down to the US price because they just don't have the margin to do that, Pentax Canada has to take action. Maybe they think it isn't a good seller (of course it is but we all buy it from the US because the price is so stupid)

Can anyone comment on Tamron SP AF 10-24m? It sells for 499 at BH. Is the quality comparable with Pentax 12-24?

I can comment on the Tamron 10-24. To summarize, I am satisfied with the lens. Distortion is minimal (straight lines stay straight, no fisheye) and flaring is well-controlled (an important consideration for wide angles since it's so easy to get the sun or other bright lights in frame).

I have no direct experience with the Pentax 12-24, but there's a side-by-side review at Ultra-Wide Zoom Review and Comparison - Pentax Camera News & Rumors - PentaxForums.com.
