Pentax 50mm f1.8

Is there any wording on how much and when this will be available?

Will it be around Canon's price (Sub 100)? :S?

I'm sure it'll be around $160 usd, if it's gonna be anything like the 35mm brother.

Yeah, probably $199 MSRP, $150-60 street price - there is no arguing about what it competes with - Nikon and Canon both have very cheap 50mm f1.8 lenses, so the price can't stay too high for very long.

I hope it is released soon. I wonder if it will have any effect on the price of the 50mm1.4. Will it lower the price of the 1.4 due to lower demand for beginners settling for the cheaper (ans slightly slower) version?

It will have more of an effect on the second hand 50mm f/1.7 F & FA lenses, though they will continue to offer advantages.

I hope it's not sub-100GBP like Canon's, because that would likely indicate terrible build quality like the Canon. I imagine it will be around the price of the DAL 35.

I disagree. I think it would make much more sense to price it near the Canon equivalent. For those of us new to DSLRs the thought of spending $150+USD on a lens is quite daunting (it's the reason I have not bought a DA35mm f2.4 yet). Canon/Nikon's cheap way of introducing beginners to a fast prime is a model that works imo.

Isn't the Canon 50/1.8 a bit of an outlier? Their most economic 35mm offering appears to be the f/2 north of 300$. I don't think the Pentax 50/1.8 will get close to the Canon in price, but I would expect it to be somewhat lower than the 35/2.4.
