I find the DA 560 to be very intriguging, but suspect it will too pricey for me. The 1.4 TC is probably the more sensible option. Also looking to upgrade the middle of my zoom line-up. I have an FA 28-105 and really like the range, as it allows me to fill the gap between 50 and 100 (where I have no primes) and yet still shoot at the wider focal lengths I normally use in landscape photography. Only problem is the lens does not perform well on the wide end, so I'm contemplating replacing it with the FA 24-90. But potentially I could also replace it with that upcoming DA* ~16-80 (assuming that lens performs well throughout its focal range).

As I finally have ordered my K5, next in line will be the super telephoto for wildlife. I find 300mm bit too short and have had good experiences with sigma 170-500 I have borrowed. It will most likely be sigma 150/170-500 as K5 let's choose higher ISO's (with K-7 I find ISO 2000 to be max). Max aperture only f6.3 shouldn't be too big of a problem in this lens then. Next I will most likely look for fast telephoto zoom in range of 50/70-135/200 and fast normal prime (sigma 30mm 1.4 comes to mind) to complete my "fast prime kit" (50mm/1.4, 85mm/1.4, 135mm/2.5, 300mm/4). And somewhere between I need to buy the battery grip. Oh dear. Like this this sounds like awful lot of money

OK, here is the real road map

At the onset of pentax DSLRs they were promoted as compatible with 23million lenses made by pentax and countless other third party lenses. As I only have 45 in total, I am about 22,999,955 lenses behind.

seriously though

If you consider my 3 main kits, M42, K&KA mount MF, and then my AF zooms, here is where I sit presently.

M42 lenses

16/2.8 FE, 24/2.5, 28/2.5, 35/2, 50/1.4, 50/4 macro. 55/1.8, 58/2, 85/1.9, 105/2.8, 135/2.8, 135/3.5, 200/3.5, 200/4

K& KA lenses

8/3.5 FE. 14/2.8, 24/2, 28/2, 28/2.5, 2x28/2.8, 35/2, 50/1.4, 85/1.4, 100/4 macro, 105/2.8, 135/2.5, 300/4, 400/5.6, 1000/11(mirror) plus 70-210/3.5 and 200-500/5.6 zooms

AF zooms

10-20/4-5.6, 28-75/2.8, 70-200/2.8 plus 1.4x and 2x TCs.

incidentals DA 16-55, FA 28-80PZ and FA 28-108 PZ

Really what else do I need???

Honestly, something in the 19-20mm range in both M42 and K mount, just to have, and a 200/2.5 in k mount.

The only other thing I might entertain is the new 560/5.6

OK. I'll play.

  1. IF: my eyesight does not improve AND
  2. IF: the K-01 is not a better solution for MF than a film body (even the LX) viewfinder THEN
  3. DO: SELL everything EQUIPMENT: GOTO END
  4. ELSE:
  5. DO: SELL LENSES
  6. DO: BUY_GAPS FA31/1.8; FA43/1.9; FA77/1.8; FA*28~70/2.8; FA*80~200/2.8;
  7. GOTO:
  8. END

The fall-thru just terminates. Klunk. LBA continues, an extended adrenaline rush. Zow!

So you are saying I should write an endless loop? I know it was 40 years ago, but IIRC a parsing error halted processing and kicked out a bad card. A loop got me an F on the exercise.

Of course, that's why I majored in English.

Two roadmap lenses have my attention: the 10ish-35 and the 18ish-200±.
My coding is VBA nowadays, how sad

Sub MyRMap()
IF .. AND(12-36 = WR, DA<>"*", budget=Excellent)
..BUY 12-36WR
elseif .. (AND(18-220 = WR, size <= Sigma 18-200 v1, budget+sales<=OK)
.. BUY 18-220WR
else
..AND (SCRIMP,SELL,SAVE) = DA12-24
End if

BUY cheap manual primes :they don't count right?
END

Sounds like perfect LBA coding.

Come springtime, I anticipate having my first digital setup with the k-01, 21mm, DA 35mm macro, and the 55mm f1.4.

I had always figured I'd get the 35 macro, but then I started reading about the other options. The 31mm, the less expensive 35mm, the FA 35mm, even the Sigma 30mm. Each time I read about another lens, I figured that was the one to have. Eventually, I came back to my original idea and I think I'm now settled on the 35mm macro. I think...

Ooh, if Pentax releases that special lens that they showed as a prototype and it ends up being somewhere around 28-30, I'm going to have to start the process all over again...

Great thread to feed the lba

I think my road map goes like this...

Current : DA 10-17 fisheye, DA* 16-55mm 2.5, DA 40mm limited, M 50 1.7/2.0, M 28mm 2.8, M 135 3.5, M 200 4.0, Takamur 135 2.8?, Tamron 90 macro, Sigma 70-300 Dg OS

2 year plan: FA 77 limited (already on order), DA* 55mm 1.4, FA 31mm limited, Sigma 2x tele

I have one eye on the yet-unknown 560, and one on my perfectly suitable 150-500.

Got already (order of min focal length):

Sigma EX 15-30 3.5-4.5
DAL 18-55 3.5-5.6 aka the kit
F35-70 3.5-4.5
F35-105 4-5.6
M50 1.7
F70-210 4-5.6
M135 3.5
Sigma EX 180 macro 3.5

I'm pretty much covered in terms of focal length, so my need is simply speed. The half stop (2.8->3.5) is neglible, so I want a fast prime.
Solution B was a Metz 36 flash and solution C was a tripod (Silk pro 400) so I don't NEED anything.

Seb.
