Then why do they put filter threads on the front of lenses if they do not anticipate photographer to use filters? why does the Pentax D-FA 645 25mm f/4 - a lens designed for medium format, have a built in 40.5mm filter drawer?
Not so people can add a placebo "protection" layer of UV coated glass that sits on their camera all the time -- which was the topic here. And absolutely not in the case of the D-FA 25mm, since the rear filter couldn't possibly serve that function.

Perhaps instead (taking a random stab at an answer) so polarisers and ND filters can be used. I am pretty sure you know this and are just giving me a hard time for some unknown reason.

Anyway, there have been plenty of other threads debating filters versus no filters. It's well off topic here.

If you are going put a filter on I would use the hoya Pro.
The glass is much thinner than standard. They are also HMC... Hoya Multi Coated.
Personly I think a thin black line around a silver lens would look mint lol
The loss in quality is tiny to say the least. Well worth doing to protect that front element.
Ive slung loads of filters over the years. Its normaly acid rain that marks them in the end.
Despite being used with the lens hood ! I always think, Im glad its not my front element thats marked.

Well I was thinking to get one silver filter for 49mm lens, I'm planning to get the 77 and 31 sooner or later so having a filter seems right to me, specially living on an island where it is more often to shoot pictures next to the seashore.

By the way, I'm really enjoying the 43mm, it's a really nice lens.
